A policeman recorded himself sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl using her mobile phone, a court heard.

PC Luke Christopher Horner was off duty when he travelled more than an hour from his home in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, to engage in sexual activity with the schoolgirl in Northamptonshire on 11 June this year.

The 24-year-old Thames Valley Police (TVP) officer pleaded guilty to a single count of sexual activity with a child during a hearing at Northampton Crown Court on Thursday.

Horner appeared at the court via video link from HMP Peterborough in Cambridgeshire.

Horner will remain in custody ahead of his sentence, which is scheduled for 8 September.

Lancashire Police teams were searching for a missing person in Walton-le-Dale when PD Jax became aggressive, biting the handler and causing serious injuries.

Further patrols, including armed officers, attended the scene and attempted to restrain the dog, a Belgian Malinois.

But all efforts failed and PD Jax was shot by armed officers.

The police dog handler suffered a serious upper leg injury and remains in hospital.

Adam Provan was jailed for 16 years with a further eight on extended licence for eight counts of rape.

The Metropolitan police protected a predatory rapist within their ranks, dismissing the complaints of one of his victims and leaving him free to attack a teenager, a judge has said.

Adam Provan, 44, was on Tuesday jailed for 16 years, followed by eight years on licence, for eight counts of raping two victims between 2003 and 2010.

The former officer was convicted in June of six counts of rape of a female police officer with whom he had been in a relationship between 2003 and 2005, and two counts of rape of a 16-year-old girl in 2010.

Judge Noel Lucas KC said the force should be ashamed, that their response to the female officer’s complaint had been 'abysmal and shocking' and that they had been more interested in 'looking out for one of their own'.

The first victim, who is still a police officer, said Provan thought he was untouchable and that she feared she would be killed. The trial at Wood Green crown court heard that he held a pillow over her face and burned her with a kettle as part of a campaign of 'abuse and harassment'.

Lauren was only 16 when Met officer Adam Provan raped her.

The defendant had 751 female contacts on his mobile phone, indicating a 'fascination bordering on the obsessive' with young women, Lucas said. As well as their names and numbers, their ages appeared to be listed, the court heard.

Metzer said the details on Provan’s phone 'strongly suggested' there was sexual activity with the women, many of whom were young.

Rolfe said: “Provan had many women’s names on his phone – detectives are working through this list to understand how they may be linked to Provan and whether there are more offences we are unaware of.”

Strathclyde polis used to be infamous for having some of the biggest, hardest coppers in the entire UK. This was by design: when Sir Percy Sillitoe became Chief Constable, he launched a recruitment drive focussed on the rural areas, such as the Highlands. Most of the new recruits had grown up doing heavy manual labour, such as farmers, blacksmiths etc.

Strathclyde's unofficial motto was, "It's gang warfare - and we're the biggest gang". They gathered intelligence on the razor gangs, and stationed coppers in unmarked vans near where the gangs were likely to meet for a prearranged fight. As soon as the gangs started fighting each other, the coppers would steam out of the vans and beat anyone not wearing a uniform into a living death.

A combination of this and a judicary who took a very dim view of violent criminals broke the razor gangs. So called, "hard men" knew that if caught in the act, they would get beaten to a pulp, then dragged in front of judge who would sentence them to 10 years in Barlinnie. And in those days, if you were sentenced to 10 years then, with good behaviour you might get released in...10 years;)

- It's there a movie or book on this?
I pictured Willian Reagal laying a smackdown on a gangster.

Looks like there might be further updates on this story as they investigate further....

Yikes...

No Mean City is a famous novel about the razor gangs. I've no doubt there are non-fiction books on the subject as well.

Detective Constable Stephen Hardy

A GMP detective convicted of 20 offences including rape and child sexual offences has today (Wednesday 13 September 2023) been jailed for 26 years.

Detective Constable Stephen Hardy (08/07/77) had been posted within GMP’s Stockport district and had been on remand following his conviction in July.

He was found guilty of committing several serious sexual offences whilst off duty at Liverpool Crown Court following a brave victim disclosure and meticulous investigation by DS Abigail Thomas and Tameside CID.

The 26 years includes an additional six years on extended licence. As Hardy has been classed as a dangerous offender, he will not be automatically released after two-thirds of his sentence. He has also been issued with a restraining order and will be on the sex offender’s register for life.

Now criminal proceedings have concluded, gross misconduct proceedings will take place.

A police officer who blackmailed more than 200 teenage girls into sending him explicit images has been jailed for life with a minimum term of 12 years.

Lewis Edwards, 24,

76978219-12670323-image-a-62_1698228808265.jpg

groomed 210 girls aged between 10 and 16 on Snapchat over a three-year period.

The South Wales Police officer posed as a 14-year-old boy and forced his victims to make indecent videos and images of themselves, which he covertly recorded.

He then used the recordings to blackmail his victims into sending increasingly graphic and explicit images. He also sent videos of himself performing a sex act.

Edwards, who joined the force in January 2021, was charged with a total of 161 offences which included inciting children to make indecent images online and to engage in sexual activity.

He pleaded guilty to over 160 counts of child sexual abuse and was sentenced to life with a minimum of 12 years, but refused to attend the sentencing hearing today at Cardiff Crown Court.

A twisted Metropolitan Police officer has been jailed for life for 13 rapes - and told one of his victims "you have met the devil".

Depraved Cliff Mitchell

Cliff-Mitchell-5350403.avif

has today been sentenced to life with a minimum term of 13 years for 10 counts of rape, three counts of rape of a child under 13, one count of kidnap and a breach of a non-molestation order.

In one terrifying attack Mitchell told a woman to put her arms behind her back at knifepoint, and tied her up with cables before covering her mouth with tape.

Mitchell was a serving Met Police officer at the time of his offending and was dismissed in December 2023 following a misconduct hearing.

Sentencing Mitchell on Wednesday, Mrs Justice May

said his crimes were so serious 'a sentence of life imprisonment is required'.

In the sentencing hearing, one victim’s statement addressing Mitchell read: 'You have shown no remorse for what you did to us. You deserve to spend the rest of your life in a cell because you are a serious danger to every woman walking the streets. You are the devil. You disgust me. I hope you suffer for the rest of your life.'

'Life sentence' doesn't usually mean 'life in prison', it means 'life under supervision' - the person goes to prison and after a certain time can get parole. How long he has to remain in prison before being considered for parole depends on how bad the crime was - in this case 13 years (one year per rape). Then if he doesn't get parole the first time this will be reconsidered at least every two years. When he gets out he has to follow certain rules for the rest of his life, relevant to his crime, like in this case maybe not going near schools or playgrounds, ankle tag, meeting probation officer every month etc. If he breaks the conditions he can go back to prison.

Being a paedophile policeman Mitchell will obviously be very unpopular in prison but he probably won't get killed.

I'm not a prison expert so maybe someone can improve on this answer. For instance I think you might be able to apply for parole up to three years before your 'minimum' sentence is up.

Edit: whether a prisoner gets parole depends on good or bad behaviour in prison but also if they think you've changed, if you are sorry, if you're going to commit more crimes etc.

I've been going back into the constabularies to deliver training and have been bumping into some of my old colleagues who have also been employed as civilian staff. This time as professional standards investigators.

It's a shit show. The crux of the problem is that in 2008 there was a recruitment freeze that lasted 5 years. That was lifted and then came the Boris Johnson 20'000 uplift. Forces were told "meet recruitment targets or face fines" Officers were recruited despite it being known they were unsuitable. As an indication of scale, when I joined Cambridgeshire they took on 24 officers a year from something like 2000 applications - now it's upwards of 180 from 250

In terms of issues - at the lowest it's those who are physically and mentally unable to do the job. At the worst.... stories you're reading here

One example a good friend gave me was in the Met. They had to dismiss an entire intake on day one. Not a single one spoke basic English. All had applied online and had got friends and family to compete their application - none had ever physically spoken to a member of police staff before being accepted
