I'm unfortunately broke, so I'm going to have to wait until I can manage to get it through gamefly.

thx for the advice, and dont worry, my ego is not closely tied to my success in video games, so I am open to suggestions.
I figured wanderer has strength in both distance and medium close fighting with his skills in both sniper and revolvers.
In reality I may frequently miss a couple sniper shots and then struggle with whether to convert to the repeater weapon as the opponent closes the distance, or just try to get a kill shot with the sniper weapon , even as he is right up in my grill. So you are probably correct that there are better options for me, since my sniper aim against a moving target is probably not as good as a seasoned console/FPS person.
On the other hand, it is pretty fun this way. With Brick, I am not sure I would have fun because the hand to hand combat seems a bit dull. Roland is a good thought, will keep it in mind, though I dont want something like the turret to make the game too easy either. The wanderer seems to require some skill to master, and thus far I am enjoying trying to increase my skills with him.

Really? Nobody dislikes this game? I'm six-seven hours in and I find it really boring and repetive. No story...just mindless skag and bandit killing over and over and over again.

I think most of the people who bought it knew it was a loot grind before buying it. It never pretended to be anything other than a game with leveling and millions of loot drops.

It's refreshing to witness a gamer who admits to having standards instead of nuthugging whatever hype is spoonfed to him. Bravo.

I pretty much thought it was gonna be a knock off version of fallout 3 (which is one of my favorite games).

Nope...it's Diablo with shooting, and that's a good thing.

Just hit level 27...it felt good as shit to go back and kill Mothrak after he killed me at level 23.

Hype? This is one of the least advertised games that has come out recently. There is even a topic on this forum talking about "games under the radar" and this game is discussed in it. The guy you quoted bought the game thinking it was a Fallout 3 clone...and you want to commend him for not buying into hype?

The game is just now starting to pick up some popularity, due to word of mouth and forums, like this.

You sound like one of those "I don't like it because it's popular and that would ruin my edgy persona" types. It's ok man, you can like something that's popular if it's good...we won't judge.

well I can see both sides. For me, been a while since I found a PS3 game where i could have fun shooting stuff and trying to upgrade/improve my guy (whether that be through weapons or adjusting abilities). I guess bioshock was a little like that - but with my busy schedule I may not get to the game for 1-2 weeks at a time, so complex puzzle solving, working through a maze of rooms etc is annoying for me. A game where you can just turn it on and have fun shooting things and finding new weapons is more to my liking. But I can certainly see how someone could call it repetitive. On the other hand... for me all FPS are repetitive and the combo of FPS and RPG gives you a lot of extra things to tinker with. Add to that, very intuitive controller and ease of changeing weapons, mixing grenades and the action skill and you begin to have some elements of strategy that never existed in most FPS games.

I suppose they could add a meaningful commerce system and more career choices and such. However, I think it is meant to be a shooter at its core and the game succeeds in what it is trying to do, in my opinion.
