Will Shogun's takedowns be effective on Lyoto? [GIFS]

Shogun uses takedowns quite different from most MMA guys today. He seems to prefer the single leg or a low body lock. They don't look particularly technical but they are effective; furthermore, he likes to use takedowns even if he is winning the standup.

Those takedowns seem very weak if im honest. The other guy looks either gassed, hurt or unbalanced. Thing we wont see Machida looking.

I agree, Machida is very elusive and has tremendous footwork. Shogun will have the same problem everyone else has, trying to AVOID Machida's pin point accuracy while trying to close the distance. I don't think this fight will be close.

Lyoto's sumo base is too good. Especially when combined with his speed.

He also has a decent working knowledge of Judo that I imagine would come into play.

shoguns pretty crafty like how he dropped for chucks leg in a sub attempt and i think something like that is his best bet... but honestly, i don't think he'll be catching machida in anything... maybe one of his wild shots will land on machida, unlikely, but possible

i think machida wins this but shogun can be pretty impressive, however, he can also be very disappointing... we will see

I think Shogun MIGHT get a take down but The Dragon is really good at defending them with his speed and strength.

Everyone here gave a good reply and provided some decent technical comments...why the hell do you feel the need to contribute such drivel?

I agree that the Sumo base and his footwork will prevent most of the takedowns...what is more Machida has better trips and sweeps than Shogun. It should be interesting though.
