Thoughts on Clay Guida

To be honest, I always found clay guida to be somewhat annoying with his "hyper" pre/post fight antics. Also dont feel there is enough substance to his wrestling/smothering style that will currently take him to the next level.

However, after seeing him fight Diego Sanchez on Saturday I was completely amazed by his Titanium Chin. I have never seen anyone take a beating like that AND still come back to compete!

My question is, does anyone think that clay guida could become a legitimate contender one day down the road? Or is he destined for the gatekeeper role?

I know he is a very competitive fighter, but I feel he needs to diversify his skill set instead of just relying on his smothering wrestling skills. If he succeeds at that, I see him in the mix for a title shot 1-2 years down the road.

Would like to hear some others thoughts on this guy.

I hate lay n pray but Guida was arguably robbed. My judging had digeo winning because in even though he was on his back the whole 2nd round he did way more damage and guida didn't do shit BUT he was on top and had control, guida won the third and hit diego with some good shots.

i think guida could win a title fight right now just because he would be at such a cardio advantage for a five round fight, the guy doesnt lose he ran out of time. if diego gets the belt i think he would lose a five round fight with guida. however i dont think guida has the all around skills to get to a title fight. the stand up needs to develop. only time will tell if he evolves, but it is bad news for everyone in the lw division if he gets to fight five round fights

You've got to respect Guida. The guy just likes to fight, and has integrity.

Turning down a bunch of cash from a video game maker because they want you to cut your hair, tells you something about him. He doesn't take money if he doesn't believe in something. The game maker should have fixed their code to work with his hair, instead of him cutting his hair to work with their code.

Right on, Guida!!!

Clay needs to stay in the UFC. He needs a few fights with some up and comers to get his confidence back up and he will be good to go. I do agree with everyone else though in saying that he needs to work strictly on his stand up. His stand up is shitty and I think that's why he gets beat.

I agree as well, going forward he needs to strictly focus on his stand-up. If that happens, he is going to be a very dangerous man.
