Damn, that was a very close fight.

Id have no problem calling that a draw personally, but if I had to give it to somebody Id give it too Serra.

Serra was fighting to win and Hughes was fighting not to lose. He LN'P his way to victory.

What sub attempt did he actually have? Hughes was never in danger of a sub. Nothing was locked on. The only argument that could be made was the kimora at the end.... but imo it wasnt locked on.

Serra wasnt fighting to win from the bottom, he wasnt using his BJJ to make any attempt at a sub or to improve his position, he was holding onto matt for dear life waiting for the ref to stand them up, thats not a Win.

I have Serra winning as well, but I can see the legitimacy in an argument for Hughes.

For those that are to daft to understand the scoring system.

You cannot give points for a knock down that was caused by an illegal blow. No matter how you look at it, it was on fighters head hitting another fighters head and it resulted in a knock down.

However, Hughes being rocked, was able to recover enough to get a take down, take the fighters back, and attempt an RNC. Round 1 goes to Hughes 10 -9

Round 2 was controlled by Hughes scoring take downs and controlling top position. Round 2 goes to Hughes 10 - 8

Round 3 was a draw to me.

So no matter how you look at it, Hughes won that match. If you could get points for illegal blows and knock downs resulting from the illegal blow, everyone would be doin it.

The problem is that the judges gave round 3 to Hughes, and that is utter bullshit. Hughes had a short knee that was mostly a block and then a a leaping hook that didn't land clean, a takedown, and while on top threw 8 punches to the body and all of them without any power or threat to hurt or finish Serra. That's it. That's all the damage and threat he posed that entire round.

Serra scored a standing body shot, a low kick, and controlled Hughes the moment they hit the ground, already having the shoulder trapped. He had three submission attempts there and prevented any damage from being done by Hughes. Standing up, neither fighter landed anything substantial, but Serra then got the take down, landed 4 nonpower shots to the head, 2 nonpower body punches, and 3 good shots to the head, 1 of them a power shot. And then he even had a last ditch submission attempt.

Hughes never threatened to end the fight at all during that round, while Serra threatened multiple times, all the while controlling and preventing any threat by Hughes.

The only people that give this fight to Hughes are trolls, fanboys, and those on the NSAC payroll.
Yep, completely agree. I love hughes and dislike Serra (For no reason I can actually think of) but, much as I hate to admit it, I thought that Serra won the fight. Rounds 1 & 3 were his. I was surprised Serra won round 3 as Matt Hughes looked to have recovered from the knockdown in the first, and seemed very comfortable in the second.
