is it just me or did matt serra get screwed?

i dont know i had it 10-8 serra after almost finishing the fight in R1 10-9 hughes R2 and because of the late takedown for serra i gave him round 3. even if u don't give him round three it should have been a draw.

Thw way i see it hw won the fight. But what are you going to do? Top position is huge is the judges eyes, even if you don't do anything with it.

I had it 29-28 for Hughes. I didn't agree with the standup in round 3. Maz is a shitty referee who does whatever he thinks the crowd wants him to do.

How was it 10-8 in the first round? Do headbutts get scored now? I know it wasnt intentional but that was the only thing that rocked hughes in the first round. I was surprised how loopy he was saying what round is it and did he knock me out that was a helluva headbutt.

the point is he almost finished him in the round...i acknowledge the head butt for sure but it might have looked like them looping shots that hit him in the back of the head did the most damage...hence him saying..."what was it i got hit with" inbetween rounds.

Everyone agrees that Serra won round 1 and that Hughes won round 2. There's no real argument there, except for trolls and nuthuggers.

The problem is that the judges gave round 3 to Hughes, and that is utter bullshit. Hughes had a short knee that was mostly a block and then a a leaping hook that didn't land clean, a takedown, and while on top threw 8 punches to the body and all of them without any power or threat to hurt or finish Serra. That's it. That's all the damage and threat he posed that entire round.

Serra scored a standing body shot, a low kick, and controlled Hughes the moment they hit the ground, already having the shoulder trapped. He had three submission attempts there and prevented any damage from being done by Hughes. Standing up, neither fighter landed anything substantial, but Serra then got the take down, landed 4 nonpower shots to the head, 2 nonpower body punches, and 3 good shots to the head, 1 of them a power shot. And then he even had a last ditch submission attempt.

Hughes never threatened to end the fight at all during that round, while Serra threatened multiple times, all the while controlling and preventing any threat by Hughes.

The only people that give this fight to Hughes are trolls, fanboys, and those on the NSAC payroll.

Serra knocked Hughes down with a hedbutt and didn't land bugger all with huges on his back. Yeah he was hurt bad but he didn't come close to putting him away. But little of that counts as the initial knock down was a headbutt.

Hughes took Serra down late in the first and got dominant position.

R1. 10-9 Hughes

Hughes won round two with a boring lay and pray.

R2. 10-9 Hughes

Third round hughes tries to lay and pray again, but Serra manages to get up with seconds remaining and score a take down, with good strikes and if there was more time probably would have put Hughes away.

R3 10-9 Serra

there you go 29-28 Hughes.

The only round IMO that could go each way is round 1, but Serra didn't really do much. He only knocked him down with a headbutt WHICH DOESNT COUNT.

It would be closer to a NO CONTEST than a Serra win IMO.

And I was cheering for Serra too.

Round 3 break down.

First 25 seconds Hughes pushes the action and lands a nice knee to serras upper body/chest.

Serra answers with a low kick. 27 seconds in.

At exactly 4:17 Hughes lands a nice combo pushes Serra against the cage with the clinch and secures a take down at 4:00

3:25 hughes throws 4 body shots that land clean, and 1 slightly lands to the head while on serra where he seems content just holding hughes down. Does NOT attempt a submission but is in position to begin attempting it.

3:12 Hughes is in Serras full guard. Where he throws a few body punches and ultimately moves serra against the cage.

Hughes lays on Serra until 2:30 When Rogan says "he has a triangle" which anyone watching it knows he NEVER had the triangle locked on or even past his shoulder. he had POSITIONING to set it up but NEVER got it on or even past his shoulder. Also noted he had positioning for an omoplata but was not close to securing it.

Hughes stood up to prevent the triangle from being an option and serra attempted to roll and get an armbar but was not successful and it was never "on"

2:20 hughes is back in guard and works small punches serra just hangs on.

1:45 they are stood back up.

1:40 serra is starting to push forward

1:25 they both seem to land a punch and it seemed like hughes punch landed with more impact but camera angle could of been deceiving.

Also note Announcers make note "one would have to think serra is behind on points"

1:20 Hughes hits serra on the top of the head with a jab.

Both seem to equally throw and miss. a few connect slightly nothing impacting.

:54 Serra lands a hook to the body

they clinch

Hughes attempts a trip and serra counters and throws hughes to the mat :47

:44 Serra passes to side control
:38 back in guard

Serra throws 2 punches and hughes answers with a decent punch from bottom to what appears to be serras ear and serra throws 1 more that connects. :32

:24 Serra throws 2 shots from above that land.

Hughes gets to one knee with serra against the cage, Serra is attempting to secure a kimora but did not seem to have it locked at all.

Hughes 10-9 Round 3 by my opinion.

I would welcome any Serra fans to read this watch the fights 3rd round and argue anything I put. maybe I down played a point where you feel Serra had impacted the round more then I noted. I was rooting for hughes so maybe i was biased in my review but I feel it was dead on.
