It's hard just to watch the replay, because he did everything right. Land a jab and shoot a double. It could happen to anyone, freak accident.

Feel so sorry for him and his family. Definitely need to pray for Zack Kirk and family.

Yeah, because health insurance is so affordable these days. I wouldn't have insurance if it weren't for my job. Don't be such a douche.

Why would you fight on a show that doesn't provide insurance if you don't have any yourself? I know in KY promoters are required to provide insurance

But after watching the fight that was definitely a freak accident. I was expecting a slam on the neck or something. Hopefully this will not hurt MMA but help to create a national sanctioning body like amateur boxing. And they could therefor require promoters to provide insurance.

Like I said before, it's great that neither he nor the family are blaming the sport. The comments they had were great.

How often do we see that? Jab, shoot the double, opponent guillotines and pulls guard. It wouldn't even cross my mind that someone could become paralysed if they landed slightly wrong. I was expecting so see a spike.

Real sad freak accident. Hope he recovers.

Can you even get insurance if you participate in MMA? Most insurance doesn't cover what they perceive as high risk behavior. Mountain climbing, almost any form of racing, boxing, skydiving and bull riding are some listed on many policies.

You probably need a job that has group coverage to even have a chance to get health, life or disability insurance if you compete in MMA.

If promoters are required to provide or offer insurance for competitors, it would be expensive and make it more difficult to get a start in MMA.

The type of person who competes in MMA thinks they're 10 feet tall and bulletproof so they don't need insurance.
