Getting Rocked in MMA Competition
I read an forum post here that cited the following article on espn.com. I don't feel like looking for it, nor do I want to jack someone's thread.
http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/box...ory?id=3183878
I've never been rocked before. I've never before got hit where I even thought about going down. The punches that I've taken, I could feel/hear a thud and maybe a flash of light followed by some pain, but I've never gotten stunned. What does it feel like? If you get knocked out cold, I imagine the lights just go out, but if you just get seriously stunned, are there any hints or tricks toward recovering your equilibrium? How about brain functionality? Do you have full access to your brain and it's your body that doesn't respond to your input?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I've never fought before because where i'm from you have to be 18 and i'm only 17, but i have been rocked pretty good before in training while sparring with some heavyweights and i only weigh about 155. but yeah, when i got rocked it was like lagging in a video game, i couldn't really make out the next move of my opponent and i couldn't tell where his punches were coming from because my vision was a bit blurred. My legs didn't feel too wabbly, but i was very dizzy for about 2-3 seconds after the shot. That's my experienced being rocked.

I have been rocked, and this is my take bro...
I was going in for I guess a punch combination, and I remember throwing a right-cross. Next thing I knew, it was like someone had edited the fight, I was looking down at the floor with my left hand in a fist like after I had punched. In that split-second, I got hit by a right hook, after seeing the footage. I didn't get knocked out, but that really stun me, and I had to recover so I clinched him and shook it off.

I got rocked by a kick to the jaw.
I didn't go fully unconscious, but right after he kicked me, I totally was out of my mind for a second. He was my friend, and black, so he paused for a second to see if I was ok. And I just stood there out on my feet. In my head, what had happened was, he and I were slaves in the 1800's in a back alley in a city, and we were boxing eachother for fun. We stopped because we thought we saw our master go by in a horse-drawn carriage at the end of the alley way, and we were supposed to be working.
After that, I snapped out of it and we kept sparring.
It was exactly like a dream.
Other than that, I've been rocked only one other time standing, when I was 14. I was just dazed. No hallucinations.
I've been knocked out cold a few times though. Once really bad riding a bike. Once jumping out of the back of a moving truck, and once falling about off a six foot drop on a mud bank. Except for falling off the bike, it was like being choked out. You wake up and don't know where you are or what just happened for a few seconds.
When I fell off the bike, I was out of it for about half an hour. I didn't know where I was or what was going on for a good while. I imagine that's what its like when people get KO'd in mma and are spazzing out in the ring, or just laying there wide eyed.

getting rocked is something thats very hard to discribe. If youve ever been choked out before, its similar to the feeling you have when you wake up, dazed and confused your really unable to properly react, even if it is just for a second. My advice to you if you get rocked is to get close (clinch) so your opponent cant get all his power into his punches. Other than that just try not to get KTFO'd.

Never gotten KTFO, but I've been more or less out of my feet before. Was a feeling of exreme lite headedness and slight dizziness. Not really sure how to get out of it, my nature reaction was to grab the guy and use him to hold myself up till the world stopped spinning.

When I used to fight, I got rocked once or twice. First off, I never once felt pain in the ring. Getting hit didn't hurt until maybe the next morning. Maybe I had some weird adrenaline thing going. I don't know. I remember getting hit and it felt like pressure, without pain. Now, in terms of getting rocked, I absolutely know it happened, because I have video evidence. In my first pro fight (read: show I got paid for...nothing huge) I got blasted with an overhand right immediately out of the box. I remember seeing him start to throw, and deciding to fire back with a combo. What I don't remember in the least is what the video shows; him hitting me flush, my legs turning to jelly, two of my punches landing (weakly, I think) and then me clinching and turning him into the corner of the ring. I won the fight and had no immediate pain, but the next day I felt like I was really hung over. Head hurt like balls.
I don't think there's any "trick" to coming out of it except not getting hit. Clinching seemed to help give me a break and avoid horrible punishment until I could safely defend again.

Pretty much the only trick is moving forward with your hands up and clinching to avoid as much punishment as possible. If you start backing up you oppenent will realize he rocked you and will go in for the KO while you are still stunned
