why are triangle escapes so rare in ufc?

in the ufc and other high level events triangle are rarely escaped. escape attemps are even rare. is it that the guy on the bottom is so good or the guy on the top is not trained in triangle escapes? seems that escape attemps go mostly untried. what do you think is the reason for this?

I'm not a BJJ or grappling master nor do I claim to be but in the video it looked like he was escaping from a triangle that wasn't locked in. I think there are only a few ways to escape from locked in triangles a la Hughes.

yeah, that triangle wasn't locked in. Usually, when the triangle's locked in, one thing you can do is to sit on your ass and use your legs to push down on his body to create enough space to pull out. If your opponent's really good though, they'll usually follow you to a triangle from mount.

Edit- Nevermind. That triangle isn't even close to locked and the guy on the bottom would turn with you if he's worth a shit.

I wouldn't say they're "rare". Watch some fights where the fighter on bottom applies a triangle choke, you'll see lots of guys escape by stacking or turning out. Granted, some of those chokes are half-assed when they're attempted, but Nate's was cinched in TIGHT. There could be many different reasons why some fighters don't escape:

Fatigue
Panic
Lack of know-how

I laughed when Nate threw the double bird. Pellegrino wasn't going anywhere.

I've been choked out many times. Sorry if I know not to panic.

I can understand maybe a guillitine due to the torque but a triangle..? Come on..
