You will most def rely on what you practiced the most and have ingrained in your muscle memory. I was thinking about combos to try out and I straight went to wrestling and beat him like that.
My second fight was 1000% percent easier. I was not nervous at all as I stepped in the cage and it allowed me to think strategy easier during the fight. It does get easier after each fight. Now in my 5th fight I am supremely relaxed while in the cage and it opens up so many options for winning.

yeah, i've been trying to prepare like that.
my instructors told me that i'm not going to remember anything in my first fight period. and that it would be up to my body to remember, and the rest would be will.
IvanMMA here in Seattle's awesome, but it's like $120 a month.
i have crispy hands and got lucky with the right people and my jiujitsu is really good considering i've never trained with a gi or at a formal academy.
but i have mediocre wrestling at best, and i figure that'll blow this whole pursuit for me. so there's a judo place here that charges $20 a month and trains for competition at all levels. i guess it was the U.S' first Judo dojo too.
would it be wise to spend some time grappling hard with them before coming back to an MMA gym? i figure it works financially and would move me along quicker.
as for the advice thanks, i'll keep training harder and hopefully i can get an amateur fighter tag here sooner than later eh?

I get nervous when I sign the contract and before the weigh-in. After I weigh-in and see my opponent face to face it's all gone after that. The day of the fight I hardly get nervous at all I'm usually just anxious to get it on.
BTW I'm a pro boxer

Your first fight the MOST important thing you need to do is BREATHE and RELAX.....I fought my first fight without taking a breath because I got so caught up in the moment...I choked the guy out in a minute and a half and was more tired after than I have been in all the rest of my fights.
As far as getting experience to fight amateur I wouldnt do it until you complete some grappling tourneys or some sort of other combat competition first (amateur boxing, Kickboxing, muay thai, wrestling) there is no substitute for competitive experience and you dont want to find out you arent ready for a mma fight the hard way. I didnt fight in my first fight until I had trained for two years at a well respected gym with proffessional fighters and I did training camps and dieted and made sure that I would win regardless of my opponent.....now im 3-0 mma and 2-0 boxing with many grappling competitions under my belt.
Preparing for a fight is like cooking a meal if you do it fast and in a microwave it will come out mediocre or bad but if you put it in the oven and slow cook it and season it properly you will end up with amazing results!

I get the most nervous in the car going to the fight. It is normally quiet because I am trying to sleep in the back seat or something, but I end up spending a lot of time inside my head where I am envisioning all the worst case scenarios that could play out. Once I get there and get settled, I am much better. Once I am warming up on the pads, I am totally good to go. Plus, my entrance is designed to alleviate all the stress. What is it? Master P's "Make 'Em Say Ughh." How are you gonna be nervous with that song playing?

Probably the first round, I pretty much always lose the first round (something I'm trying to fix). But after that, the nerves go away and I come back strong in the second.

thranks Travis, wise words.
so yeah, Judo will be good i think.
there's always grappling tournaments around here, so i'll get on that as soon as i can. i guess i'll just keep boxing bigger guys in parks and backyards and hitting the pads with my fellow fledgling fighters for now

I havn't had a fight yet, but I really like this quote.
Rickson Gracie
Only a fool has no fear. Fear is within everybody.
It is part of being human. You can fear taking a test in school, or having to interview for a job, or even driving to the store for bread. Whatever, it can be anything. But don't kid yourself. I get scared sometimes, too. I am not Superman. It is also smart to fear your wife !
You have to have intelligent fear. Sometimes before a fight, i find myself thinking 'What if the guy does this or that, what am i going to do?' And if i don't know the answer or am a little afraid, i know that is something i need to work on. So by the time the fight comes, i hope he does that thing that i feared, because now i'm ready for it. So you see, I use the fear to my own good. Don't ignore fear, or it will conquer you. People are afraid of things they don't know. When you take the time to face your fears, they disappear.
