How deadly is the Mua Thai clinch?

Can it be used on a fresh opponent?
Is it hard to get out of one?
How do you perform one properly?

Thanks guys

when i spar, this is one of my most effecitve techniques i use.

what it is, is basically your forarms are on the neck/colar bone of your opponent. the grip is fairly important, as proper MT grip enables you to control your opponents position with the movement of your hand.

to attain the proper grip, hold your hand our, palm facing you, then take your other hand, and wrap it around the wrist of the hand(palm) facing you. the grip needs to be a thumbless grip.

since your palm hand is open, you can roll it inside or out, to swicth to your other hand showing its palm, and the other hand gripping. this helps move your oponnent from side to side to enable maximum leverage and power with knees.

another grip that can be used effectivley is to just cross your fingers. but this doesnt help you with your side to side movement to allow knees from the side as good as the other grip.

to get out of it...

posture up, meaning you need to have your hips infront of your head. then if you want to strike, punch to the head, elbow to the head, if in a street fight, eye gouge(sp?), head but etc.

also you can throw your hand over top of their clinch to break their hold but this allows their knees to work more effectivley as you are now stretching out your ab muscles.

Thanks heaps.
So at all times your forearms must maintain a tight squeeze on both sides of their neck?
I never been put in a clinch before but from what I seen it seems like its a tight lock and hard for someone to get out.
Wanderlei Silva does a great job of using it.

Basically, if you are proficient with the MT clinch it is extremely effective. But, if you are unable to control your opponents weight, stance, and movement, you are open to various dirty boxing techniques. A good example: Houston V Jardine.

There are many wrestling shrugs that can be used against it. Put your wrist on the bottom of their elbow so it looks like you are checking your watch. If it is your left hand, sway your hips and punch through to the right and vice versa. It will break the grip and get your opponents hands off your neck if done correctly.

What stops you from escaping a clinch though? If you moved down is it then the attacker will move down with you?
If you move left or right he will just move left and right because of his forearm gripping you?

And moving down would be worse because the knee is coming up?

Anderson Silva vs rich Franklin
Wanderlei vs Rampage
Mark Kerr versus Ranger scott?

Knees coming up = nasty knockout and broken nose.

wtf houston v jardine?? dirty boxing?? umm NO
it was just raw power, that is all, no dirty boxing no anything... just brawl and throw as hard and fast as you can while you can.
