My friend that trains at Marinoble's was paying $140/month for full MMA. When I trained at UF it was $140-$150 on EFT & $160-$170 is you payed by check/cash/credit card. I'm not sure what UTC charges now, but when they first opened it was like $99/month but I'm sure that's gone up since then. Honestly I just heard about the Cassio/Marinoble's connection, but I get a "newsletter" from UTC and they say that they have Cassio Wernek Jiu Jitsu now, I don't know if that means Cassio will ever be there or if they just mean that they teach his style.

In conclusion

There are a few other schools in the area but these are the most known IMO. If I had the time & money I'd probably choose between UF & UTC (although Roseville's pretty far from me). I would like to believe that the Muay Thai is a lot better at UTC considering that Smith & Irvin have had a lot of training under Ganyao & Jongsanan Fairtex, but I cannot confirm this assumption. Urijah definitely has the best wrestling pedigree around though.[/quote]

Irvin and Smith commute to the Fairtex academy in San Fran each about three days a week to work with Ganyao and Jongsanan. Also they will travel to Thailand for a few weeks at a time to train at the Fairtex camp. So IMO UTC has the best Muay Training available in the area. As far as BJJ UTC has recently hired Casio to run classes so that is a definate bonus.

Yeah the Fairtex connection that Irvin & Smith have is definitely a plus, at one point Fairtex was considered the best Muay Thai school in the US, probably still is.

In reference to my first post: I've heard that Marinoble's has added more MMA classes, so that should help. Also, most places will let you just come in whenever and workout on your own (if they're open during times when no classes are being taught).

While you are probably right, if you are in the Sac area Andy K's is closer and supposed to be pretty good. I havent been there myself though.

Muay Thai Thai Boxing

Check it out.

I mentioned them in my first post, I trained there one Saturday morning a few months ago. A friend of mine used to train there (he still might, I'm not sure) and he invited me to come and workout with them. I liked it, but like I said in my first post the place is tiny and their schedule isn't as open as other places. It is pure Muay Thai though, you can't find that anywhere else around.

If i had the money i would without a doubt go to UTC but thats because I live in Roseville and Ultimate Fitness is too far of a drive. If I didn't have the money then I would go to Marinobles because i've had friends go there and say pretty positive things about it.. I can tell you one place not to go. Its actually a gym with a space rented out for MMA called Fitness 180 in Roseville. It was an new school and my instructor was renting the space from the lady who owned the gym. From day 1 he had a lot of issues with the owner. When new members would sign up to work out at the gym she would let them into his part of the gym and the guests would walk around on our mats with their shoes on and I saw first hand. He had a really good kids program going and also he had some awesome equipment a lot of it was fresh almost brand new. Anyway the owner of the gym eventually shut him down and locked him out of his own space. Theres a whole lawsuit thing going on right now and i guess she thought she was gonna keep all his equipment and boxing ring but eventually he called the police and I helped him move it all into storage. Theres a new instructor there now and I haven't taken the time to check it out myself but it definitely looks like crap now. They have a cage which is probably the only nice thing they have. I don't plan on enrolling because i'm pretty bitter about my training getting screwed up and now i've been out of the loop for almost 4 months now. I still have a year left on my gym membership so thats the only reason i'm still there but their equipment and weights are all pretty old and used. You've been warned to stay away.
