Question for the professionals - What do you guys do for a living outside of MMA?

Pros,

So what do you guys do for a living outside of MMA? You don't make much from fighting so how do you supplement your income but at the same time, make more time to train?

A couple of pros I know in my area have they're own general labour/contruction business (kind of risky in my opinion, what if you get hurt from training or fighting and you can't work?!?) or they have they're own school so they can set they're own hours and train more.

Your input is much appreciated!

Thanks!

I'm a loan shark for a nice guy that borrows money to people all over New York.

As pros, how many hours you guys put in a week for training?

With a full time accounting job at a major oil and gas firm, a wife and two dogs, as an amateur, I get in about 12 to 15 hours a week.

How many hours should a pro train a week?

On average anywhere from 22-28 hours a week. Some people prefer to split their cardio with strength training, but you do it the way you feel more comfortable.

Example of an average schedule for a professional mma fighter.

I train cardio 6 days a week. I do strength training 3 days a week HARD and 3 days a week moderate (usually the days I train MMA). I train BJJ Tue, Thur, Fri mornings, and Sun. I train Muay Thai Mon, Wed, and some Fri nights.

Stinks it is very hard for me to train. I work 9 hours a day as a programmer/IT job and then I also have to take care of my daughter. I still can't believe i can get into shape enough to fight heh.

I work 8hrs a day as a librarian and sit on my ass the rest of the time watching TV, eating terrible junk food, blazing, and posting on Sherdog. The life of a keyboard warrior haha big props to the people who step up and give fighting a shot. Always wanted to get into BJJ or MMA training.

I know a lot of guys who work the doors, that affords them the time to be able to train at least twice a day.

Other guys are shift workers e.g. firemen/police. Firemen especially because when they're on shift they can actually work out there.

I'm 9-5, try to get some circuits/cardio in 2 x a week before work and train pretty miuch most nights, maybe 6 days a week.

It's not about 'time put in' per se, more quality of the time.
