Defo.. (took one yesterday, walking is difficult today.)

Just adding really to what peopel say bout leg kicks and chekcin them etc, the worst is when you check and kind of jam the kick, and the top of your knee gets them, it stings at the time but they always end a lot worse off!

For sparring and training it can hurt.. A lot.
But that’s just something that comes with it.

In a real fight (streetfight, etc) I have never taken a knee, although I have broken someone's ribs with knees to the ribs, and they were completely gassed after that. Getting hit in the face with a punch or a kick when you have adrenaline going through you won't hurt until after. When I'm sparring im relaxed and more technical, so things hurt a lot more.

Ice ice and more ice.

Knees to the face surely must hurt more than a leg kick ?

Actually, you're not far from the truth. I used to fight, now I coach a team. When I start working with kids on stand up (kick boxing) I tell them buy a 1/2 inch wooden dowel at the hardware store. Three times per week, spend thiry minutes smacking each shin. Start lightly, and, over the course of a couple of months, smack harder and harder. It builds scar tissue and calcifies the shins so that kicks don't hurt nearly as much.

For the first year, there's nothing you can do about it...get used to your shins being sore.
I'm just thinking of my five year old, who trains jiu jitsu, going to this guy. lol. Who wants their kids to build up scar tissue. Adults cool but this guy is teaching kids to kick sticks. It may be effective but who is into the sport enough that they want to scar their kids shins permanantly. I'll give you the benifit of the doubt and hope you are talking about high school kids. Just don't teach this to the little ones.

Anybody has an sugestions on where to start with training? I want to be a muay thia striker with jui jitsu background? I'm 205 right now and I can't seem to get down to 190? Any feedback will help

its amazing how a little big of grappling shows how out of shape someone is. i started with jiu jitsu with wrestling and then striking. to answer the origional ? you can shake off a blow to the head, but you do feel the leg kicks and body shots for a while after

Run every day and train 5 days a week in JJ. Once you can hang with everyone in class give it a few more months and find a MT gym to start working your standup.
