Partial ACL tear *kinda long*

Hey guys, I know knee injury threads have been done to death but i'm kind of down on mine and am looking for some advice. My background, 4 years of Thai boxing and 3 amateur fights (all with partially/torn ACL). I was in a pretty bad car accident 2 months ago and have been doing physiotherapy 4 hours a day, 5 days a week since then and am almost back at 100%, got the therapist to examine my knee today (MRI scheduled for Oct 27th) and he did all the test and he said he deals with knees all the time and can feel that my ACL is partially torn. About 2.5 years ago I got caught in a deep heel hook and the guy cranked it too hard, since then i've had the injury.

Since i'll be getting a decent chunk of money from my car crash for a settlement (I was the victim) I was planning on moving to Montreal to train at Tristar full time and try to get my foot into the world of professional MMA and live my dream of training full time with no job, while living off my settlement. However now i'm going to need surgery.. but i've decided that I don't want to take 6 months - 1 year off and waste this opportunity I have.

My question is, is there anything you guys do who have had an ACL injury before to help with stabalizing the knee, any certain brand of knee brace that you can grapple with that helps? Ice? Heat after sessions etc.. Sorry for the long post.

if you plan on competing professionally i'd say you need the surgery ...i had it for my acl mcl and meniscus about 3 months ago and the recovery is actually pretty quick...i talked to 3 surgeons and they suggested that to seriously compete again you need to be 100 percent...then again it's only a partial tear....but given the nature of the sport.......

Ya it's just I have no idea how long it takes to recover, i've heard like 6-12 months and plus ill be living off my settlement however much it will be so I don't want to be wasting my money while on crutches. I'll just see how it goes and if it completely tears then I'll have no choice I guess lol.

I wrestled with a partial torn ACL in high school and it sucked but it's do able. I couldn't really imagine training full time mma with it tho. The main problem is you need to be really careful cause the tear can keep getting bigger and bigger. I use to ice it after every practice and match and did a lot of stretching to keep my knee as loose as possible.

hey guys im sorry but im not allowed to make threads at the moment and stuff so i need to use a thread anyways:

my goal is to one day be a mma titleholder in an organization like shooto americas (if they have one again in a few years) because i feel shooto is the best form of mma im 16.5 years old and i feel like its too late for me to start training because im not very naturally talented but i do have a good chin and can hit hard my boxing instructor who i just started training with said i pack a lot of power in my punches im 160 but he says i hit as hard as guys 20+ pounds heavier than me

anyways is it too late for me to go into mma and be successful? also i cant really afford to go to an mma gym so is it possible for me to learn bjj from books and spar with my purple belt friend (who i can already submit lols im pretty lanky 5 11 160 and i have good hips so its hard for him to pass my guard while i can submit him from the guard, i can sub him 4/10 times) ill be limited in resources so would i be able to develop a good base from sparring with my friend, learning from books and taking boxing lessons?

btw i heard abel cullum in an interview said that he learned bjj from tapes and fights and stuff and hes pretty successful
