Do amateur fights get standing 8's after knockdown? JW why the other dude didn't get GnP'd after you knocked him down the first time.

in amateur MMA in NJ, you have to wear the 6 oz combat sports gloves and shin guards and there are no striking to grounded opponent in the head. I hate that rule more than anything, but it is what it is.
and yes, once you knock down your opponent with a strike, you can't follow them to the ground.

wow those are some crappy rules. In Texas the only thing you can not do is renforced knees.

Us amateurs are so lucky here in Texas I guess, because our rules are about the same as pros minus elbows on the ground and of course we wear 6oz gloves as well. I have fought for an amateur promotion though that actually allowed elbows on the ground here in Texas. I think the less watered down the rules are, the easier transition for fighters once they turn pro, what do you guys think?
