I don't understand people who don't compete often...

Okay, if you're GSP or Anderson Silva, I completely understand that you need time to rest between extremely high level MMA bouts under the Unified Rules. You have to train, prepare and game plan because you risk everything you've built in those 25/15 minutes in the Octagon.

What about Amateur MMA fighters who compete three times a year? Seriously guys...suck it up and fight as often as you can. I mean okay, if you're injured and can't compete I completely understand. What about if you end your fight in the first round and are without injuries? Do you think you're justified to party for a couple of weeks after the fight and get fat and then re-enter the gym? NO

I may sound like a douche but honestly guys, we're amateurs, this doesn't go on our professional records and you learn a lot from every fight. Take every opportunity you get before you find yourself being offered a pro fight but still stuck with the jitters and nerves of an amateur fighter.

/end rant.

i hear yah but the thing is most amateurs have a real job on the side.. it can be tough juggling a career, training and competing all at the same time.

True and I respect those that do and can't compete b'cause of that. But what about say, 16-18 year old highschool students...my gym back in the U.S is full of them and everyone acts like a huge pro-fighter, has "training camps" and loves getting out of shape after every fight. Geezzzzzzzz.

Btw teachaa, we have to hang out if I'm ever in Bkk.

Maybe some people just fight to fight, not to impress anyone, be a UFC champion or make a living from fighting. Or maybe sometimes there are personal issues you have to deal with. Or maybe there are no fights within a thousand kilometers of where you live and train. Im just saying sometimes there is a good reason, although I agree that there is never an excuse to spend a few weeks on a binge or go home and do a line after every training session.

Good work using misdirection. The secret is safest when it's out in the open.

pwo-cocaine ftw.

I have a full-time job, school, a part-time business I'm just starting, and a family. (And I love cocaine!). I don't understand people who judge others by their own standards.

I get what you're saying though. But kids are kids man, being part of something makes them feel better, so long as they aren't actively bothering you just let them live and learn. Be the kind of person you think they should be, and if it works out well for you they'll probably follow your lead.

yeah, a job can interfere with it, as well school, when you dont have that, its easy, i have seen several guys out here competing 5-6 times in 2 months, it depends on your lifestyle

I'd be fighting next week, and probably 3-5 more times this year if i could, but it looks like i need surgery on my back, and possibly my knee. SO i'll be out of commission for awhile.

The thing to remember is this is a Sport, and Promoters of Sport in the end are usually in it to make money. Combine that with that the MMA underbelly is littered with snakes and shysters who couldn't cut it in the Boxing underbelly (also various merchandising venues), and the situation can become toxic. Depending on the area this can be very dangerous for people who are inexperienced, being used as fodder for someone being groomed for a lucrative career. At that point the playing field becomes un-level. This happens all-too-often and could get people seriously hurt.

I don't liken Amateur Combat Sports to the Company softball game. And unfortunately a lot of legislative bodies tend to turn the other cheek to shady goings on.

i completely agree with you. I started training October 1st and have fought Nov. 22, February 13th, February 28, May 30 and will again June 19th

and I have never taken more than a week off in between fights. not because i am some stud but i got into this because i love the sport, so why wouldn't i want to be in training and fighting? thats what I signed up for!

the improvements i have made fight to fight is unbelieveable and i attribute alot of it to fighting quick enough after each contest to build on what i learned.

great post.
