I am depressed. Tore MCL during Gold Medal match (Canadian National Sanshou)
Fuck man, I was so close, so fucking close to achieving my dream. I know I have what it takes to compete at the world level. I was winning the match, I had the answer for everything my opponent was throwing at me. But in a freak accident, during a scramble for a take down, me and my opponent fell over my right knee (Cro Cop style)... "POP! POP! POP!" I heared as I rolled off the stage in agony. My dumbass self thought I could continue (After reviewing the tape I can't even believe I could even stand up after that) they started the match again. Opponent simple threw a front kick I caught it but physics took over and my knee buckled and heared a more profound "POP!" and I went out on my shield.
Was this silver medal fucking worth it?!?! Now I'm facing a possible career ending injury because I had too much heart for my own good.
I told my Sifu (Master in Chinese) that I would bring back the gold before he died of stomach cancer two years from today and I came up short. I let him down. I cried after. It really hurt.
Anyone here ever had a bad knee injury and came back stronger then ever? I need some inspiration stories!!!
Thanks,
Randy
PS
I'll post the vids once I can rip them off the DVD...

wow, dude, that's some seriously tough experience.
but I've seen athletes come back to top with multiple knee reconstructive surgeries (skier Janica Kostelic) so hold on. there's hope yet...

Look at Frank Mir. His leg was absolutely mangled form that motorcycle accident. He came back and won the title over one of the greatest fighters of our time(Nog). Better yet he knocked him out, something not even Fedor, Tim Sylvia or Cro Cop could do. What can't kill you can only make you stronger. You will win next year. Good Luck in the future!

That's a pretty tough experience but i'm convinced that it will make you stronger. Your Sifu must be very proud about you, someone who achieved a silver medal in any kind of national competition while only being stopped by a tough freak injury. I wish you the best and i hope you come back strong.
WAR Randy Chung!

There are alot of stories, but it will take time to heal, you could be looking at some time. Shogun had a serius knee injury, he came back.
Good luck.

I don't think you left anyone down. Fuck, man, you even tried to continue the fight. Can't imagine how much that hurt.

I don't think you let your Sifu down, Randy. Not everyone has the kind of heart that you displayed in your match. I think that says more about you as a person than any medal ever could.

Plenty of athletes have come back from injuries.
You just have to take care of it, get proper rehabilitation and then slowly work your way back into training. find a good physiotherapist or doctor to help you out along the way.
Good luck!
