how should i go about becoming a professional fighter?
hey all,
i'm just an amatuer fighter, but i was wondering how should i go about becoming pro? what are things i'd have to do? what are things you've done to become pro? i have a great team, i have 6 fights and won them all,i haven't lost an mma fight yet ...i'd like to start a record that actually means something and maybe get some $$$ while i am at it..i don't mind being an ammy, but i feel i could become so much more. i go train from school to school and state to state, and i know for a fact my skill is better than a lot of professionals i have seen fight. in fact, as a amatuer i believe i already fought and beat a guy who was a pro..lol.

I'm glad you posted this. I'm an AM myself I was curious as well.Every pro I've met pretty much tell me that their trainer set them up with their first pro fight.I know that some smaller shows have websites that have fighter applications on them.Other then that I'm pretty clueless also.

okay well here's what i do know, we got to get a hiv/std test done, and have to fight in a state that issues pro licenses, which is a huge reason why im not pro yet, i live in nc(which is just now trying to make mma legal,so no license here for a while), and the state i normally fight in(virginia) supposedly only allows amateur mma..but no pro mma(why?), and the state beside me and below me(tennesse and s.c) dont allow mma at all. so the area i live in is hard for amateurs, which is why alot of fighters i know are still amatuers.
so im guessing that i will have to travel for every single fight if turned pro,now i have to find a promotion that is willing to give me a shot at making a pro debut, which isn't easy at all.

if it matters, NC just legalized MMA fights. As of maybe 2-3 weeks ago.

Contact your State Athletic Commission and ask them what their requirements are. With a 6-0 Am record i'd say you have proven yourself worthy of attaining a professional fighters license. As long as you are able to pass all your medical exams I don't see any issues. The next hurdle would be would be getting booked on a show. A lot of guys use managers to set this stuff up (for $$$ of course). If I were you i'd check out the UG forum over at MMA.TV. A lot of Fighters and managers post over there and it seems to be a good place for networking. Good luck to you.

yes they did, but they said no one can hold an event until january at the earliest due to them figuring out how they are going to do regulation and sanctioning.

you can try getting a manager/agent, which can be pretty hard since they dont typically advertise much.
good luck, i'm kind of curious myself. i know it's a lot easier if you know someone with the right aquantences
