If you control the head, you control the control.
A really good muay thai clinch just doesn't hold, it places alot of pressure on the carotid of the neck/ throat, it helps to slightly disorient your opponent so when you applied correctly and it gets broken or you just let go, it is unlikely that their hands will come up immediately so you could throw a quick dirty boxing combo, to do some damage and also give yourself space.
Especially, If you are taller and longer than your opponent there is no better position to be in... ask Rich Franklin

I watched the fight science show that had Rickson and a whole bunch of other martial arts dudes on it. Anyway long story short they tested which blows packed the most force and could do the most damage.

A knee from the clinch absolutely destroyed the competition. It wasn't even close.
