Watch Anderson Silva's first fight with Rich Franklin. He showed everyone how devastating a Muay Thai clinch is. Evan Tanner is also well known for his.

Defending the clinch is very simple and easy:

Just put one knee on the ground.

How deadly is the MT clinch?? Almost a dumb question really. Look what Wandy did to Rampage with it, not once but twice. Look at what A Silva did to Franklin with it. It's horrifyingly deadly if used right. It can create huge face smashing damage with mashed noses, broken jaws, and broken orbital bones.

BTW. Every day there is a poll on the front page of sherdog. Is there anywhere to go to view the results of these polls?? Unlike other polls that send you to the results when you vote, sherdogs does not, and some of them interest me. Help anyone? Sorry for the offtopic.

so next time don't panic and go on the defense......bodylock get the guy to the ground. then pound away. that mt guy will let go in no time.
its not that simple their pulling you down and keeping you away why do you think page didnt just hug wandy same with frank and silva

Anderson Silva vs rich Franklin
Wanderlei vs Rampage
Mark Kerr versus Ranger scott?

Knees coming up = nasty knockout and broken nose.
The Muay Thai clinch is not hard to escape i believe fighters think that they are ok for a time and feel safe in it for moments, but then quickly realize and get overwhelmed by it. You can break out of it a few ways, but the best way is to reach your hand under the clinch, swim in and grab the same shoulder of your hand so if your reaching with your right hand you grab their right shoulder, then create leverage and break the grip but twisting your body and pulling back. If i showed you once, you'd be amazed at how easy it is to break out. Something else to keep in mind. Lutter shaved his head for reason vs Silva.

In my limited experience to use the MT clinch you have to first soften up your opponent a bit. If he is too fresh you might have a bit of trouble locking it in. Thats when the trouble starts because he will have the power/presence of mind to a) hit you with hooks over your arms. b) pull back/lift with a lot of power as you launch a knee.

IMHO,Gotta make them a bit tired or dazed first, then it becomes a great weapon.
