I train MT some and let me tell you, if even a blue belt gets you in the clinch and managed to get it fully sinked in...your in for some pain.

Just watch Anderson Silva vs Franklin 1 and Wanderlei vs Rampage to see the level of pain that an educated MT clinch can bring. Kneese from thin position are very hard to block and even if you do they can generate enough momentum on them useing the clinch that after 1-2 your arms will be quite sore.

i don't see how a person just don't body lock a mt clinch and take them down. cos they can't knee you if your body is tight to theirs... just trip the leg..then presto..on the ground. sure you're going to land in a guard or something. the only problem i see is when a person get in a clinch they panic after getting knee once or twic. so they start to fight their way out (franklin vs silva) by pure instinct they try to punch cos they have two free hands free...believing that guy doing the mt clinch doesn't have hands to block their face.. but if you're dealing with someone that know mt...they do have control of your head. its just like a body lock but instead is a head lock.

so next time don't panic and go on the defense......bodylock get the guy to the ground. then pound away. that mt guy will let go in no time.

VERY effective, if you use it right & very hard to get out of if you dont practice swimming out of it. The danger is this...if you are fighting MMA or Muay Thai & you put someone in it....you may end up in it.

Where I train MT we always practice swimming out it and putting it on the person who just put us in it. So it is great to use...but practice well or you may just end up in it if you try to use it.

Sangtien put me in a clinch one time to show me the technique and literally popped my neck before showing me how helpless I would be from there. Of course, the skill level difference between us was miles apart, but none the less, I could do nothing to escape. He also showed me that u can take your opponent down from the clinch as well by lifting him slightly off the floor and dumping him on the mat. I've never seen anyone in MMA do the clinch as effectively as Sangtien showed me.

I had no experience defending the clinch in training and I was totally controlled -- which surprised me.
