How to beat a BJJ Purple belt?

I'm a Black belt in Karate and a national rep in freestyle wrestling. In 1 weeks time I fight a purple belt bjj with limited to no stand up training. I'm looking for input to develop a game plan? Do I try to go Chuck Liddel on his ass and knock him out? If so do I try to counter punch or get in there and try to knock some holes? What kinda out there submissions might a purple belt try?

Who is he a purple belt under? Huge difference between a purple belt under joe schmoe and a Caesar Gracie purple belt or something like that.

You best bet would be to practice sprawling as much as you can. He can't use his JJ if he can't get you on the ground. If he does get you down, just stay relaxed and stay in your guard if you can and try to ride it out. He's probably not going to try and submit you from your guard but rather try to pass it. As long as you maintain guard, you should be able to get a stand-up.

Mix it up a lot with your strikes, punching, knees, kicks, ect so he can't start anticipating your movements. Don't be too tentative so that he will respect your power and not get too confident, but don't get too crazy in case you make a major mistake. Counter punching is probably a solid plan since he defense will probably be shit. If you have reach on him, use it as much as you can to frustrate him. Avoid kicking above the waist early on too, otherwise he might be able to slip you up and get you on the ground. If the fights goes long and he starts getting tired and leaves his hands down, then you could go for it.

I've only been training for about 6 months now, so take my advice with a grain of salt I guess. From what I've seen from the guys at my gym, staying calm and relaxed before a fight is just as vital as the training leading up to it. As long as you stay calm, you'll do fine. Good luck my friend.

The problem is he will go for the take down and get it ,eventually the fight will end up on the ground, but what you got going for you most jujitsu only guys forget that you can strike on the ground because their so busy working for submissions , so if i were you i would take him down before he took you down it might get him off guard and try to beat him into submission.

probably the best advice i could think of. if not, he WILL take you down and tap you out. the chance of you scoring a KO with karate as he tries to take you down are very small. the best bet would be to surprise him with a takedown, try to get mount (stay out of his guard) and pound him out. good luck man, you're going to need it

Depends on the purple belt and who he trains under. If it's a mcdojo you will probably win if it's a gracie well your S.O.L

Look out for leglocks. Purple belt level is when that starts becoming more important in Gi competition.

Be aware of your weight if he snags a lag, keep the pressure on him.
