Fight Question
I'm a 19 year old amature fighter. I've had 2 fights so far. Won the first with a head kick knock out, and lost the second by ref stoppage. I had a horrible showing in my second fight because my head wasn't all there, the event was disorganized and just bad, and I felt like shit; but I got out there and did it anyway for the experience. Now I was planning on fighting again near the end of July. The promoter calls me today and tells me he wants me to fight on his event at the end of next month. Problem is he wants me (1-1-0) to fight for the belt in my weight class against someone who's 5-4-0.
I'm really not too sure about this. I feel like I'm just getting fed to some guy with way more experience, just to increase his mediocre record. If you guys were in my position, what would you do?

With the hedging that I don't know anything about you or your skill set, that sounds like it would not be a good fight for you to take, at all. At 1-1 you should be fighting people who are 0-0, 0-1, or 1-0 to continue to build your experience and record.

if it was me I would look at how his style matches to yours if he is a striker b=and ur a striker but u think u have btter striking or with a better ground game that u could exploit him i would take it but it would only be if you felt comfortable and think you can win

Don't do it! Having 2 fights compared to a guy with 9 fights never turns out good in your favor. Winning a belt at an ameteur level sounds cool but is not worth crap. Ask to fight another guy with about the same level of fight experience. Be weary of promoters that want to put together those kinds of match ups. Your time will come, it's not worth getting hurt for some bullshit belt.

this...exaclty. You have to remember, these promoters are mainly worried about one thing..making money. They have to promote their card and title fight, so they will throw anyone against the "champ" on short notice.
Since it is still ammy, there is nothing perm...however, going out there and just getting utterly schooled may not be a good learning experience.
Good luck with either way you choose, bro

I am not going to tell you to do it or not do it.
what i will say is be honest about where your skill set is at. if they offer you a title shot at 1-1 its typically for one reason: they want the other kid to have the belt.
why?
because nobody with one win deserves a shot at any belt. I am not saying this to be a dick, but from experience, i turned down a shot at a amateur belt they offered me after only 3 fights cause I knew I wasn't ready.
don't think about whether you are ready to beat the champion but ask if you are then ready to defend it and take on the best of all comers, when i looked deep in me I knew I wasn't skilled enough yet for the second part, so I held off.
just my 2 cents.

Just curios to see your decision...Did you or are you going to do it?
My 2 cents is that it is a low rate promotion, and the promoter prolly cannot find fighters.
On the other hand 5-4, shit ill fight him and I havent trained in 6 months lol.
But I agree with the other post, Winning isnt the challenge defending it is

To be honest I myself would do it, but look at it this way. Dont fight for the title, who cares about an amateur title, fight him to win. So what hes 5-4. Dont look at records and titles. Just look at him as a fighter, his strengths and weaknesses, study the way he fights, and once you got him figured out, break him down.
A fight is a fight, it can go both ways. One fighter can knock his opponent out, or his opponent can submit him. Its mixed martial arts, its unpredictable, but hey do what you feel is right.
If you feel that your not ready then dont fight. Take more time to train until your ready, but thats just my 2 cents.

your amateur record doesn't matter much so I say go for it. fighting experienced fighters makes you better! that is the whole point of fighting at the amateur level isn't it?
my first fight was against a guy 4-0 with 4 ko's, and I lost in the 3rd round by ref stoppage... but the experience was valuable. and I felt pretty good about it because I won the first round and nearly stopped the guy. you never know what you can do until you get in there.
