Wow! Was this before Nakai-san fought against Rickson in that tournament? And was it soon after that he started to train with you?
I knew that he was a instructor at Purebred at one point. Always curious how and when that happened. Did you award Nakai-san his blackbelt in BJJ?

I love hearing stories about future legends crossing paths.

Yes, this was about 8 months before he fought Rickson...and he was training with me off and on from then. I gave him his blue than everytime he entered a BJJ tournament and won, he advanced a belt. e was the first Japanese I trained in BJJ.

Who's Still Standing?

Enson,

I know I asked if you saw this DVD yet, but it is awesome. Fights on it include both your fights with Couture & Shamrock, Trigg vs. Machado, Paulson vs. Newton, Rumina vs. both John Lewis & Pederneiras.

the Bonus extras have these sick twisted Monty-Python-like animation shorts with weird things llike Tom Erickson with cat ears, Frank Trigg with butterfly wings, your face talking on a Butsuzo statue! Way too funny....

Enson, some fighters like Nick Diaz smoke weed thus he got his win taken away from Gomi. Whats your perception on smoking weed for fighters? Do you think its really a big deal and does Kid smoke?

Well, weed doesn't help you fight better in fact it actually will hurt your performance so these fighters that smoke that are good fighters......like Nick....can you imagine how much worse he would have beat Gomi if he didn't smoke. Smoking weed or cigarettes definitely hurts your stamina and your performance. I would NOT recommend it for any of my fighters and if they are avid weed smokers I make sure their not smoking weed at least 3 months before their fights.
I don't think Nicks win should have been taken away from him because it doesn't enhance performance. Maybe a fine and a suspension because weed is illegal. Just the fact that it hurts a fighters performance and is against the law makes it a big deal. Does Kid smoke??? Somethings are better left unsaid.

LOL, I'll take your word for it. I remember when Nick got caught for weed on the Gomi fight and many Sherdog "expert doctor" forum members said it gave Nick the ability to not get hurt when punched. Good to see an actual fighter like yourself speaking it like it is when it comes to fighting and weed.

Enson,

I hope this message finds you doing well. I was just wondering what is going on with Ganjo these days? Is there any chance Dream will give him a chance to show his stuff at 70 kg in the near future? I thought maybe Sengoku would've also looked at him, Endo, or Nakakura for their upcoming "Road to Gomi" tournament, but instead they chose Mirota, who Ganjo lit up standing and would've finished in the 1st round if it wasn't for the bell and the standing 8 rule.

Also, have you visited Sakuraba's new gym in Shinagawa yet? I went by there before it opened a couple months ago and it looks like it's in a good spot, and I've heard it's a pretty nice facility.

Cheers.
