Anybody.. Competeing without a corner/coach?

I'm competing in a small grappling tourney this weekend, and my team is training for Worlds, which I cannot attend cause I can't get the time off work. No one from my team is attending this tourney, no friends, I'm at it alone. Any advice for not having an extra set of eyes? Kinda makes me nervous

Man, good luck with that. I went to my first amateur mma fight without a corner, but thankfully I had a friend there who was also fighting so his kick boxing instructor cornered me. I don't know, find somebody else that's fighting and willing to do it or just cornering someone there? Personally I'd want someone in my corner at least for moral support and slap me around ("you're not tired!").

yea, seems to me it would be better to find another fighter or just anyone for the moral support. Kinda risky in my book, but if you gotta do it, then the best of luck to ya....

That sounds like a bad idea... How far away is the tournament? What happens if you get injured and cant drive home?

i would try to find a cornerman or a fighter...The added motivation they provide will be nothing but beneficial and they can see things in the fight that you may not pick up on....If you cant then make sure you have a strong mental mindset and you are mentally prepared for your tourney. People underestimate the Psychological/Mental part of fighting...1
Good luck Dude, Train Hard and Compete to the best u can!!!

man you should at least have a friend in your corner...my cousin boxed his last 3 matches without coaches (1 match for the German LHW Championship)...I was in his corner and he told me it was a relief for him to at least have one friend/cousin in the corner...to compete without corner is a bad idea

Grappling tourney? Go for it, I've done it on more than one occasion.

Since it's grappling and not MMA I'd say you're fine. With MMA there's a different mentality, and it's good to have a corner because I've seen a lot of local fights where after the fight the two guys still wanna kill each other and the cornerman often get involved. With grappling it's a lot more chill, there's a lot less animosity. But it's always a plus to have people supporting you. The only thing that sucks about not having another set of eyes is you don't have someone who can see your mistakes firsthand and yell at you to correct them. When I wrestled in high school I probably would've had more losses if it weren't for hearing the things my coaches and teammates were screaming. Best of luck to you.

I've grappled in tourny's without corners before.

It's not that big of a deal, just go at it with a bit more of a layed back attitude than normal.
