Attn: Tristar Gym fighters (Ammy/Pro)
Hey guys, this thread is for Ammy/Pro fighters fighting out of Tristar Gym in MTL. I'm moving from Vancouver to Montreal for the sole purpose to train full time at Tristar because i'm interested in seeing how far I can take my fighting (MMA). Long story short I was totaled in a Car Crash driving home from work one night (truck t-boned my honda civic on my driver door where I was sitting) and it was a wake up call since my body was spared even though I should have been killed and i'm getting a settlement out of it within the next 2-3 weeks most likely, as soon as I do i'll be buying a one way ticket, living off my settlement and trying my best to take my fighting somewhere. I'm from east Canada myself Ontario/Montreal and i've been to Tristar once (just did a drop in when the gym was empty to do bag work while visiting) and I fell in love with the place.
I'm wondering how the training is like there, any personal opinion on the coaches and or your favorite classes? and also is the gym over crowded now due to the popularity of GSP/Crow/Kang etc, any fighters feel free to message me and I look forward to meeting with you guys in the soon future and punching each other in the face ;)

That's cool man, i'll prob end up meeting you then if you train there. I don't need to call really, already trained there before, more just making discussion and trying to meet some people from the gym before I end up going ya know.

You lucky bastard!
And for the TS, ask MontrealMauler for advice on that, he knows Montreal inside out.

All I remember was it being pretty expensive if you wanted to do multiple disciplines.
Where were you training here (Vancouver)?

I'm a member at tristar although I haven't been in the past month due to various complications I can say the training is very good with many pro/ammy fighters participating in daily classes (there is 6 classes a week for MMA along with i believe 5 pro sessions).
Since I'm not an ammy or pro fighter I can't really say how it is exactly but I can say the quality is definitely top notch. The gym itself is located 15 mins from downtown Montreal via metro and there is also John Chaimbergs gym a few streets over and also a local wrestling gym where Gia Sissaouri instructs a few classes a week I believe (he also teaches at tristar twice a week in private lessons).
Hope that helps.

15 minutes by Metro? I lived on St.Matthieu's and it was a lot longer than 15 minutes, IIRC. I think it was more like 45.
Though that was years ago, maybe things have changed.

Awesome man, thats was what i'm looking for, just the overall vibe of the quality of training/students there. I'm going to be at the gym 5-6 days a week for hours, i'm a total gym rat even if it's just to go in there and stand infront of the bags for hours. I was more curious to the level of students there for sparring partners. My background is thai boxing (5 years, been training since 16) and I started crossing over into MMA but still need to drill my ground work the most. I was training thai boxing with Mark Brackenbury and then doing my sparring/bagwork/MMA at The Fight Pit. My standup is very strong, I did a few sparring sessions with Shane Campbell and was holding my own fairly well besides getting my ass swept a few times lol, wrestling is my weakest spot, submissions aren't too bad, have sub'd some gold medalist tournament winners out here but I would not call myself good by any stretch.
Really just looking forward to learning and being able to dedicate the next year or so of my life to full time training, just a dream of mine. My main weapon is my brain, very very cerebral fighter and with the right leadership I learn extremely fast, so i'm looking forward to really testing myself and taking this to the next level. Btw Tristar is just off Metro De La Savane which I believe is like 20 mins from downtown where i'll be living approx.

Also one question for you Kyle, I read you were saying about the pro sessions. How do you go about getting invited into the sessions? do you need to be competing at a pro level? (only currently am ammy), or do you just need to be good enough as a sparring partner that you get invited into the sessions?
Also if anyone needs a sparring partner i'll be free 7 days a week to come down and hop in the ring to do as many rounds as needed.
