If I have put you on the ground, I should have earned myself the opportunity to knee and kick. If you cannot defend adequately to the referee's opinion, that's a TKO.

Fighting is fighting. If you want to take elbows and some ground strikes away, that's okay for amateur.

Just IMO.
well put. get Fight_Song on the committee!

Good thread. I have also posted before on this topic. I love Bas but I can't believe every show he talks about how he hates elbows and then asks how many elbow KOs there are. Gee, how many jab KOs are there?

IMO, elbows are great and the stoppages due to elbow cuts is vastly overstated. Also, elbows are a good close range weapon and can cause lots of damage beyond a simple cut.

In fact, Bas even said that Lesnar should have used elbows against Mir.

the problem with NO elbows is that then in the guard the fighter in the bottom position can neutralise the threat too easily, leading to stalemates where the guy on to cant get the leverage to punch properly, and your thinking, "if only he could just elbow him in the head now to get this moving"

it helps reduce the boredom on the ground.

Don't rules in Japan suck too then? Since in Pride they didn't use elbows on the ground. Its all depending on the Org thats running it for the most part.

In boxing they want to show their standup without ending the fight quick, it is supposed to last. It is an "Art". You don't understand. And BTW, that was a strange and abrupt transition to the Bas Rutten commercial.

elbows should stay. its not boxing its mma they don't stop for a little blood like in boxing its always a worry that it will be stopped.
but really it rarely gets stopped just for the blood for example joe stevenson vs BJ penn the fight ended by sub not doctor . Kos vs. Chris Lytel went the distance very bloody but the doc didn't stop it .

The point is the doctor's in MMA don't stop just for blood usually the fighter is rocked and the doctor and the ref don't want to see him hurt any worse or the cut is really bad and the amount of scarring could damage the fighters career .

It's if the blood is affecting the fighter's vision, Mr.263 posts since June.
