125lbs and 135lbs fighters in the US
How common is it that fly and bantamweight fights make their way on to your local cards??
I ask because 2-3 yrs ago there were virtually no featherweight fights in UK. Very rarely would you see 66kg (145) guys on a local show.
Now feathers are very common, and bantams are just starting to get respected as a weight class. So bantams are walking the path feathers did a couple yrs ago, but still there are absolutely no flyweights (I cant think of one ever competing as a fly) and Im just starting to notice flyweights trying to get fights (and so far failing or just competing at 135).
Just wondered what the situation in America was. Yes I know theres plenty of fights on WEC but what about the smaller local shows?
Peace.

I have seen a FEW amateur flyweights but almost no pros. I weigh about 145 and was looking to cut down to 125 for fighting (wrestled 125 all through college) but have had trouble finding fights. I am pro now which has made it a nightmare to find fights at 125 or even 135. I have had to fight 145 because there are so many more fighters at that weight. I am a decently sized 145 but would do my best at 125 or 135 so i'm hoping more fighters start coming out. I am in the midwest United states btw

How in the hell can you cut 20 pounds? Seriously? The bigger you are, the easier it is to cut, 145 to 125 would be CRAZY. I weigh 147 pounds (Im 16 though), I cut to under 140, and I had a hell of a time, it got to the point, I could barely speak right, and while everyone was eating and laughing after the weigh ins, I was inside my hotel, laying down because it felt like I was on cocaine.
I think weight cutting for Americans come natural to you guys lol. Im Canadian so Im not as gifted as you then lol.

It's not that crazy. I cut 20 pounds for my last fight and will cut it again. First was 160 to 140 and this time will be 155(walk around) to 135 (weigh ins) cutting the 160 to 140 wasn't as bad as you would think, and that was sauna free, I started three weeks ahead of time with smart water/salt intake and a complete lack of simple carbs (pop is my weakness outside training camp)
the last week I ate a chicken breast 3 times a day and made weight, and was back up to 150 by the time the fight started. and I am by no means an expert in the weight cut. I guess it all depends on your body/metabolism
edit:
PS: there are alot of feather and bantam weights that fight in KC, maybe its all of us wanting to be LC Davis.

I am an amateur and there tends to be one or two 135 fights on each card I fight on, hardly ever 125s. Lots of 145s which is where I am at now, I also train with a pro 135er and an ammy 135er

If you do it right you can gain alot of weight by fight time. Heaviest Ive been for fight time was 169. I fight 145. Alot of small meals between then and fight time. No bigs meals. Waste alot of nutrients to the body.
Back on topic, Ive seen a decent amount of 135lbers in the midwest
