My friend is currently doing a 15-life sentence for 3 counts of child rape. He's been sleeping with the mother of these kids for close to 20 years. All of a sudden they have a falling out and he's off to prison.

His only crimes are having a fifth grade education, and a public defender.

If they do the crime, they deserve severe punishment, possibly death. I'd hate like Hell to see my friend beheaded and crucified for a crime he never committed.

I should point out that homosexuality is also a capital offense in Saudi Arabia and that it's legal to marry and consummate the marriage with 9 year old girls following the example of the Prophet Muhammad. If this guy actually did commit these crimes, then it sounds like he deserves this punishment. But, I have some doubts about his guilt considering that this is the Saudi Arabian "justice" system. I'm sure that tons of innocent people get jailed and tons of guilty go free based on corruption, fundamentalism, backwards ideas, excessive religiosity, etc. Even more so than our certainly less than perfect system in the US and other Western countries.

If we all lived by our emotions and impulses the world would be an even more fucked up place. Thankfully, for the most part the state deals in reason rather than passion. When it doesn't, such as in this case, it's stepping backward into barbarity.
