New guy,
I think to even suggest that match is giving AA way too much credit for his boxing abilities.
Arlovski got a bronze medal in the world Sambo championships when he was 19.
Yes, he then worked long hours with Stepanov on Kickboxing with emphasis on the Boxing because hands are more efficient, and because he’s a great natural athlete and fighter he picked it up well and employs it well in his career, as a centerpiece to his make-up, but his style still relies on grappling as part of his total package.
You give me my M-16 and I’ll clean out the room. Take it way from me and what have I got ?
Look at grappling reliance as Andrei’s M-16……Without that, he just isn’t the same force.
Then, consider the much deeper talent pool he’s up against in Boxing, and you have an uphill battle for him just getting down with guys ranked at the bottom of the top 200-300.
Hunt and Sefo are premiere K-1 fighters, and career strikers, and they never could hang with even that level of Boxing.
Haye crushed Polish star Tomasz Bonin, who has twice the pro fight experience as Arlovski (any sport) and less losses.
I like Arlovski and I admire his confidence, but he couldn’t last a round with Bonin in a clean fight, let alone last one with Haye.
Maybe Ray Mercer’s available, I hear he gives the promoters the results they’re hoping for.
