I went to BJ's Wholesale on Thursday to buy some stuff for the 4th of July BBQ - The dude that checked the receipt didn't even realize I had a basketball & a beach chair that I didn't pay for in my cart.

Wholesale places such as Costco and BJ's have a legal right to check your receipt upon exit of the store. For that act is waved by the customer on your contract with them.

Walmart receipt checking is acceptable on a state to state basis depending upon your states laws.


One or two christmas ago i had a similar experience at Walmart. Went their after work one night to pick up a portable phone for a gift. It was the only thing i needed and spent twenty minutes on the express line waiting to pay for it. One older woman was nice enough to let me go infront of her since i had one item.

During my waiting on the line i kept seeing the receipt checker at the door looking at me. Now i did look out of place at this store. Majority of customers at this store are usually black and hispanic considering its specific location. At the door i got the request "Sir, i need to see your receipt". Which i nicely replied, "No you may not" and continued walking. Wasnt yelled at to stop or chased after.
