I don't think everybody in this thread is on the same page as to what constitutes an underrated film. True Lies, Commando, Under Siege, Road House, etc. are all FAR from underrated.

The Substitute=Good answer.

Steven Seagal's most successful film and an action film 7-9 out of 10 people have seen=Not a good answer.

Now, back on topic:

I'm pretty sure leon isn't underrated. Considering it's in the top 50 on imbd.

Versus, Payback and Tango & Cash has already been mentioned I see.

The Last Boy Scout

Why? Because it's written by Shane Black, the master of one-liners. One of my favorite action movies.

Ford Fairlane, Rock & Roll Detective.

Why? Tries so hard to be cool that it goes beyond silly and goes back to being cool again.

Soldier

Why? This movie is severely underrated, it has Kurt Russel in top shape, great action scenes and what I found to be an interesting story.

Ice-T, Charles S. Duton, John C. Mcginley, Gary Busey, F. Murray Abraham... Nuff said.

Denis Leary at his best. Plus, Jeremy Piven!

Cuba Gooding Jr. is hilariously young in this one.

Why: Awesome movie. Far fetched yes, but still great. I have no idea why this movie didn't do better. If you haven't seen it you have to. The last scene where there is at least 2 minutes straight of him shooting everyone like a Matrix movie and then a 1-on-1 gun battle which last like three minutes after he dices like 15 guys with a sword pretty much sums this movie up. Awesome! Quote: "You're treading on my dreams" Grade: A-
This is one of the greatest movies I have ever seen. Great plot, much like V for vendetta, but better cast (no hot chicks) and better plot line.

Next, a big "action scene" should be more than a camera swirling around a man who's standing still with bullets whizzing around him. As if this weren't bad enough, the 1984-meets-a-million-other-dystopias plot is old and tired. Equilibrium blows the goats.

Apart from that major infraction, I like the rest of your list Ikkus. But seriously, Equilibrium and Boondock Saints are the two MOST overrated straight-to-video releases of all time. Goddamn college students and their cult movie followings. They went straight to video for a reason.
