Hmmm, sometimes I feel like I'm getting really old. Not even ten years ago Nike was fairly well established as a shitty company that hurts poor people and children, and a fair chunk of artists, musicians and sub cultures avoided their shitty products. Now we have Dave Chappelle wearing black power Nike kicks on Block Party as if it's some sort of symbol of emancipation, and people wear old school Nike kicks as if they're "retro" and not just a marketing ploy (I saw tons of visual artist and bands in Montreal fall for this on a regular basis even as they presented themselves as "counter-culture" and "anti-establishment"). I'm not perfect and I'm sure I unwittingly participate in the denigration and oppression of poor people in many aspects of my life, but to me Nike is the number one symbol of Corporations>people and I think it's gay you're celebrating their stupid fucking commercial.
