I've been to Cancun.
Most big hotels are "family" hotels. You'll have to do a search for more "exclusive" hotels if you don't want kids near you.
Best piece of advice you'll ever get for anytime you visit Mexico:
1) Don't act like a gringo. And by gringo i don't mean a guy from the USA, but i refer to a stupid dude who's only interest is getting drunk, vomits on himself, shits his pants, thinks he's the best thing after the Internetz, and thinks he can get away with anything he does - Read: gringo springbreakers are the most hated people in Mexico, they're only tolerated because they spend money, but IMO (and of pretty much everyone i know of) they should all be intoxicated with adulterated alcohol in hopes of exterminating them.
2) Learn a couple of words in spanish. "Gracias" and "Buenos días/buenas tardes/buenas noches" is enough if you're a retard. It's not a NEED to do so, but it's a courtesy. If you're courteous, you will be treated in the same manner. The concept of "you get for what you pay for" doesn't quite exist in Mexico.
3) Don't buy food in the street. If you're not used to it, you'll probably get diarrhea, cholera, and what not. The risk of spending the whole vacation in the toilet because you thought you could eat some chiles and get away with it is simply not worth it.
4) Make sure taxis have a taximeter ("taximetro"). If they don't have one, don't take that taxi.
5) For going out, ask the good looking girls who are part of the staff of the hotel you're staying at. They may know of good places to go, since they're locals - and IMO the last place you'd want to be, is the bars/clubs where all the gringos are going to be. If you want to go to Cancun, and spend your time in clubs full of gringos, you might as well go stay in the USA, and go to the nearest club in your nearest corner. You'll see the exact same type of drunkards and whores - why waste your money going to Mexico?
6) The Bulldog is not bad. But if you're ugly, and plan on going alone, the chances are you're going to wait for a while to get inside - unless you tip the security guys.
7) Keep your fail and aidz with you and don't spread them here.
