Vancouver would not still have a franchise had they selected Nash. Nash's production in Phoenix was a result of D'Antoni's innovative offensive schemes.

I would go with Darko as the worst because of how much Detroit lost by taking him. Could you imagine that team with Carmelo or Wade or Bosh? They would've had a dynasty.

I thought it was said that Detroit wouldn't have taken any of those guys, since they already had those positions filled.

I'd have to say it was Kwame Brown. With some of the other picks, such as Darko, Olowakandi, and Bowie, I can understand why the team made the choice, and it made sense. You have to take the risk and get the big man with a back to the basket game. And all those teams needed a big man.

But with the Wizards, Kwame at #1 was somewhat of a surprise. There were at least 4 other big men that were at least considered as good as Kwame, even then, (Not in hindsight). Kwame was also getting killed in workouts against the other big men in the draft. He has small hands. These are all things that Michael Jordan knew BEFORE he drafted him. He tried to make a tricky pick and look like a genius and he blew it.

I could see them passing on Wade, as their backcourt was solid. But Prince was by no means established as their starting SF (he played in 42 games and averaged 3.3ppg the season before), and why not take a big in Bosh when they ultimately took a big in Darko?

Nash was a star at Santa Clara, but he took about 5yrs to develop for the NBA. That's not on Big Country, Vancouver would've moved to Memphis regardless.

Now, as a Hawks fan, I can bitch. We took Marvin Williams 2nd in '05 over Chris Paul and Deron Williams, followed by Shelden Fucking Williams 5th in '06 over Brandon Roy. All while in DESPERATE need of a PG. It's only been a couple years and it's glaringly obvious how badly Billy Knight fucked that up.

As far as worst ever, it's Sam Bowie. And that can't be argued.

First I thought of. Not because he was horrible, just because he was before MJ making it the worst pick imo.

I would also like to add Len Bias for the Celtics if it hasn't been mentioned. Doesn't get much worse than a first rounder who od's before even getting to play.

Edit: I see Bias a couple posts above me.

Are you sure? I'm too lazy to look it up but I watched that draft and I could've sworn that the Charlotte Hornets drafted Kobe and then traded him to the Lakers for Vlade Divac.

Yep. Don't recall if it was Vlade, but he was drafted by Charlotte.

Bowie isn't up there at all. He was on the all rookie team and had a good first year.
