to name a few:

Shawn Bradley

Christian Laettner (maybe)

Chris Washburn (3.pick by GS in 1986)

Sharone Wright (6.pick by Philadelphia in 1994)

Marcus Camby (loads of talent got picked behind him in the same draft: Abdur-Rahim, Marbury, Bryant, Ray Allen...)

Tony Battie (5.pick by Denver in 1997)

Adonal Foyle (8.pick by Golden State in 1997)

Raef LaFrentz (3.pick by Denver in 1998)

Robert Traylor (6.pick by Dallas 1998)

Jonathan Bender (5.pick by Toronto in 1999)

...

Speaking of Tractor Trailer....how about Dallas trading Kobe Bryant to the Lakers for him? Worse trade EVER!

I agree that it's Kwame, but its Michael Jordan is at fault for drafting this kid with the #1 pick. Kwame was a project coming out of high school, and having the pressure of being the 1st pick and Jordan on your back is enough to make most kids crack. The stories I hear of how tough Jordan was on Kwame is pretty insane. Jordan was already hard on his teammates, imagine the things he would say and do to a 18 year old kid. Kwame couldve still be a good player, but he needed at least 2 years in school and the right type of guidance and coaching. If Kwame is the the worst 1st pick drafted, then Michael Jordan is probably the worst GM ever. His Charlotte team is going no where fast.

it HAS to be darko, based on the talent of that draft:

1. LeBron James
2. Darko Milicic
3. Carmelo Anthony
4. Chris Bosh
5. Dwyane Wade
6. Chris Kaman
7. Kirk Hinrich
8. T.J. Ford
9. Michael Sweetney
10. Jarvis Hayes

It's kind of scary how good the pistons have been since then and how good they could have been with ANY of the top 10 picks in the draft besides darko.

I gotta stick with my initial Sam Bowie pick. Michael Jordan will (and already has) gone down in history as the GOAT basketballer. A few quality seasons from Bowie does not equate to him not being a major flop and a huge letdown to the Trailblazers, the city of Portland, and its fans. It's about 10+ years later since Jordan's Bulls era and noone's even come close to matching him as an icon, a leader, or a winner. Bowie just doesn't stack up.

Also, the Rockets get a pass because they drafted Hakeem that year number one overall that year. That was a quality big man, and he won rings to prove it (albiet in MJ's "retirement" years).

Darko. At least the other "horrible" picks actually play.

Darko had talent, but no one worked with him. He's an example of a European player that didn't transition well to the NBA.

The Knicks taking Frederick Weiss instead of homegrown player Ron Artest.
