for the us part of the documentary though they followed around guys who were getting ready for a us sumo tournament. they were training with random people or with small groups of people who also liked sumo, but it was obviously nothing like japan.

getting involved in learning sumo in the us is clearly very difficult.
I believe this show ( or at least part of it) is on the net.

I saw the nat geo documentary on sumo. the guys in the us wouldn't even make the juryo division in japan, which is the aaa version, let alone be able to do the top division, but I give them credit for doing something hard like sumo must be.

talk about commitment.
the story I heard was slightly different. They said he had a silicone implant on top of his haed that made him taller. Now that is some serious shit...

I found "Inside Sumo" online. Great doc, I wish there was more Sumo documentaries. That documentary and hearing that Lyoto apparently studied it really has been peaking my interest in the sport.

true nuff, it's too bad those guys don't have the opportunity to train as much as they would like to.

same here, there aren't enough sumo documentaries.

there's a short but fairly interesting one that is for the most part about kids training sumo:

or this one about training:

and there are a lot of clips on youtube of people training in heya/stables. i wish i could find a documentary that talked more about the history of the sport though.

I heard both stories, I like the board story better, the silicon implant story is less hardcore imo.
