LOL you've cleared nothing up.

But I have read the thread and it's pretty much gangs. A rose by any other name....

Football is used as the excuse they need to act upon their urges to fight. Why would a Man City fan go watching two teams he has no connection with if there wasn't going to be any fighting? Why would a Burnley fan fight against his fellow supporters if the football came first?

You're right that the clubs and the firms are inextricably linked and there would be no firms without the football but i'm pretty sure these people would use some other outlet for their aggression if the football wasn't there and they'd still be fighting. Just against different people and for different reasons.

^^^^ I am not so sure about that, some of them would no doubt end up in violence but some hooligans are "normal" people from differnt social backgrounds

Maybe some of them are just genuine supporters who get caught up in violence when going to matches but i don't know. There are some lads i grew up with who have always been fans of our local team, Bury. They call themselves the firm and give it the big come on to opposition fans throughout the match or when police are there to defuse the situation but i don't think they ever fight. It's just not in their nature and never has been. They just like to act hard. The other hooligans i've met from City and Utd however love to fight and do it for any reason they can find. Whether it's to do with football or not. I think it has to be part of your mentality if you're going to do something like that

Danerous Youth is someone more akin to a gang member or something. No one would use the word 'hooligan' seriously in the US.

That said, I find it odd that people form gangs over sports games. I mean, it's a game.
Blasphemy!

And don't sit on your high horse as an American

Isn't fist fights quite common in MAdison Square GArden? mostly in regards to hockey but...

Riots when the red sox won?

Thankfully we have numerous sports to dilute the tribalism here in the US. Otherwise I'd bet this nonsense would also be going on here.

YouTube - Feyenoord-Ajax 2006 djPaul@Rob here you can hear that "Rotterdam Hooligans" @ 0:30 seconds... "Rotterdam Hooligans" is also a record from a famous Dutch DJ who supports Feyenoord.

About the police teaming up with other firms when they are playing Feyenoord is bullshit though...
