Soccer hooliganism - seriously?

So I've seen Green Street Hooligans and The Football Factory and, at the risk of sounding completely ignorant, I have to ask: does this shit really happen? I mean do "firms" actually set something up to meet on match day and duke it out?

Their are some great books on football hooligans....just dont read any of the dougie brimson or cass pennant books

I watched some of the Football Factories International and it was funny as hell. By funny, I mean fucking retarded. Who would even bother doing that shit "for the team"?

If they didn't have soccer teams over there they would just be doing it for something else. It has very little to do with the sport I would assume.

your assumption would be wrong, they love their football clubs...yes, a select few are followers and just there for the biff but not the majority

Dick Advocaat (manager of a russian football club) said that he cant sign black players because of the nazi supporters.

I seriously wish we had shit like that in the states. There is something seriously badass about having that kind of emotion invested into something.

Some of it may be a little over the top, but I think it pretty cool to see that kind of passion over a team.
