i dont really have an opinion on it since i have never had a chance to participate in it and the only time i have watched it is the olympics.

I got well into learning about all kinds of armed combat when I used to do kendo.

I've never actually done fencing but I've watched quite a bit on TV.

It's pretty cool. i see it kinda like a boxing exchange. You fake about until one strikes then you get a little sequence of action.

One thing I really liked was that if there was a draw after the time was up they would have extra time (a minute or two I think) but before that they would toss a coin - whoevr lost would lose at the end of the extra time unless they made the point.

I really liked this rule as it forced one fencer to push the action.

I did it for a while in my early highschool years.
Good fun, although I can't claim I was particularly good at it.
My preference was for sabre.

Fenced a little in HS. I wasn't emo. It was definitely a lot of fun.

I fenced quite a bit for a few years. Depending on what you're fencing (I was best at epee and competitive at saber), the key is good technique (as with anything), good strategy, and good footwork.

I was into LARP as a kid, even had a course with some dude who used to sword fight at mediviel carnivals and so on.

A bunch of us used to "train" wooden swords hurt like hell
