patrick willis.

in 5 games he has:

49 tackles
2 forced fumbles
2.5 sacks
3 pass defenses
1 defensive td

compare that to ruud's 6 games:

58 tackles
0 forced fumbles
0 sacks
3 pass defenses
0 defensive tds

by the way, willis has 2 ints on the year whereas ruud only has one.

i would take ruud right now over laurinaitis but that is only because ruud is more proven. laurinaitis is a rookie and while he has looked impressive we still don't know if he can handle an entire nfl season and maintain his level of play. not really a fair comparison right now.

I would say he should be able to stay healthy. He was a 3 year starter at Ohio State and I don't recall him ever having the injury bug. He's a workout freak as well as far as eating right, lifting etc. I haven't even seen him play a down this year. Has he looked pretty good?

the nfl season is longer and more grueling. however, he won't have to worry about the postseason so you may be right.

and yeah, i would say laurinaitis has looked good. its hard for a rookie middle linebacker and he has been making all of the defensive calls on the field. spagnuolo knows defense and he is really high on him thus far.

Ruud of Laurinitis, I can never say a Ohio State player is the best the best at anything. That being said, Ruud of Laurinitis sounds like a kicka$$ name.

For a 2nd rounder he looks like a steal to me so far.

Well, you're comparing a 5th year guy against a rookie. With that said, I'll take Ruud right now but within the next year, James Laurinitis should take this rather easily barring injury.

Laurinitis is a rookie and he's playing like a veteran and while his athletic skills may not be up there with the very good/great LBs, his mind and football instinct is as good as any of them. Here are his rookie stats thus far:

45 tackles
2 forced fumbles
0 sacks
2 pass defenses
0 defensive td
2 ints
