I think Euro basketball is more finesse and USA Basketball is more power/ throw it into the post style play. I think I remeber ESPN saying the 2004 USA Olympic Team had trouble with the pick and roll that the Europeans played against them. I'm not a basketball expert so I might be wrong.

USA practices by scrimmaging, Euro and South American teams practice by running drill after drill after drill; hence the Europeans and South Americans are more fundamentally sound. I am a basketball expert so there is zero chance I may be wrong.

EDIT: And the reason for this is because scrimmaging is funner than running monotonous drills, and in the US, the overpaid players have control over their coaches while in Europe and South America, players will do whatever it takes to get on their national team.
