What about Anaheim's d-core? At least on paper it looks pretty good. Schneider, Beauchemin, Pronger, and Niedermayer.

HNIC ran a quick montage of Lidstrom the other day. Amazing how smooth he is and I don't think I saw him look down once. Dallas has a decent forechecking game but it's tough to do against detroit because the wings always have the puck.

Detroit has yet to see a team as talented as the Pens in the playoffs this season. I think it would be one hell of a series. If the Wings would win it, it certainly wouldn't be in 4 or 5 games.

i dont want to harp on the issue but osgood started it and gets nothing. its always the poor guy that reacts that gets punished. cant see the stars or philly coming back from here...put it this way, if the wings or pens take one win out of the next two games then its history

Hockey thoughts from the past few days...this is pretty long..

-NHL got the whole Ribiero/Osgood thing right. Nobody deserved a suspension, but both deserved fines.

-I like the Pen's PK; really aggressive. I wish the Flyers had some better skaters so they could pressure the puck that way.

-Flyers PP looks lost without Kimmo. the one goal they got on the PP wasn't even a result of sustained pressure or puck control.

-I had flashbacks to Bryan Berard when Coburn took that puck to the face last night. From the replay, I couldn't tell where he got hit and I was very concerned that it caught him directly in the eye. Good to hear it was just a nasty cut; hopefully there's no concussion here that the Flyers once again fail to diagnose.

-Crosby, Alex, and Malkin are all very close in terms of talent, but I think if I'm starting a team from scratch, Malkin's my first pick.

-Biron looks like he has come back down to earth after two great playoff series. Awful puckhandling cost the Flyers a goal in game 1, and deflection or not, I don't think he can allow that shortside goal to Crosby in game 2.

-Mike Richards is just a fantastic hockey player.

-I was not the biggest Jeff Carter fan this season. I would have moved him to TO in a second if Kaberle was willing to waive the NTC....but, I am glad he is still a Flyer. I think he has taken a huge step forward during the second half of the season and throughout the playoffs. This no-deal may have been Holmgren's best move since the Coburn trade.

-The officiating in the NHL is easily the worst of the 4 major sports, and I say this as someone who doesn't think the refs are screwing the Flyers at all this series -- they have been equally bad going both ways.

-Flyers need to win the next 2 to have a chance of advancing, but this series is not out of reach yet. For all the talk about the Pens being the far superior team on the ice, watching the first two games you would not know that.

Can't see anyway back for the Flyers now, I don't believe we can beat Penguins in their building, but I think Pens can win in Wachovia.

Over in 5 I feel, sadly

Even if it's over in 4, this was a very successful season for the Flyers.

Absolutely, the transition has been a great success, hopefully some good off-season acquisitions can propell us even further

haha yeah tickets sold out in less than four mins so i was going to meet friends there but it was too shitty outside so we just went to a bar to watch it which of course was ridiculously packed. if they split in philly i will try again to see them close it out in game 5 if the weather is nice.

The loss of Timmonen is what's going to fuck over the Flyers.

I don't think Pitts can beat Detroit, though.

Flyers’ Coburn unlikely for Game 3 | Philadelphia Daily News | 05/12/2008

This article disappoints me, not because Coburn's gonna miss tomorrow's game......but because of this:

Quote:
Coburn lost a lot of blood after the injury and was lightheaded and threw up several times on the team charter back from Pittsburgh, Holmgren said. Holmgren said the team does not believe Coburn had a concussion.
From Lindros to Primeau to Gagne, this team is atrocious at diagnosing these things. Now our best defenseman is lightheated and throwing up, but we don't think there's any concussion issues there....are you kidding me???
