He has all the talent in the world, but with no work ethic. Steve Young rips the shit out of him because Rex doesn't put the film work in that a starting QB should be. It is his fault, but also Spurrier's for not instilling this in him in college, and the Bears fault for not having a proper mentor for him (Griese is a grade A D-bag).

T,J. Houshmanzadeh has been under Chad Johnson's shadow for a while but has probably shed the "underrated" label by now. Still, some do overlook him because of Johnson's name recognition.

LMFAO!! I thought I was the only one who referred to Merriman as Lattimer from The Program. Weird too because didn't Lattimer get run over by the tailback in that Iowa game because he was off the juice? Similar to MJD blasting roidman back wards as well.

Teams don't even throw to his side of the field. The only way to appreciate how good he is is to watch him play since the stats don't say it. No one watches the Raiders though, because they are fucking terrible.

Agreed. teams usually picked on Stanford Routt/Fabian Washington's side of the field and kept it away from Asomugha.
My only question is what offensive coordinators are gonna do when Deangelo Hall is now on that other side.

burn Hall with double moves, it is Hall's only weakness really. Besides his tiny brain of course.

I never knew a single cornerback could get burned with a double move, thanks man. That can be done but the fact that Hall fills a huge talent gap from his predecessor's makes Oakland's secondary just a little better than last year.

I like those mentions. Bo Ruud is on New England now with Mayo and Crable, I'm interested if he is as good as Barrett. Thomas Howard is really underrated as well. 2 pick sixes last year was sweet!

not sure if you are mocking me or whatever, but Hall is the same type of corner as the guy on SD and what Mike McKenzie used to be. They give their WR a little cushion and then jump routes using their great speed to get INTs. This is how Steve Smith is able to burn Hall because he is just as fast as hall, so when Hall bites on the pump fake from the double move he is toast. Oakland defense is going to be very good this year, as long as Huff takes a step forward and actually progresses as a player.

I can't agree that MJD is underrated. He's rated just fine. The guy is all over the highlights in his first two seasons. Every team wants to get themselves a MJD now. If a Jaguar back is underrated, it's Fred Taylor. My theory is that since fantasy football is so popular, Taylor doesn't get his due because he's never been a big touchdown guy. They've had short yardage backs take his points for years. But look up the guy's career. 4.7 yards per carry, minimal fumbles, decent receiving skills. And it took an injury for him to make the Pro Bowl this year after he was finally getting SOME recognition.
When I think of underrated players, I got to throw out a shout to my boy, Michael Strahan. For a New York player, this guy has gotten totally overlooked as an all-time great defensive end. You'll hear him mentioned sometimes, but his name has gotten pushed aside due to the emergence of all the speed-rushers on the opposite end who post the big sack numbers. But this guy is a top RUN-STUFFER, who happens to post 150 sacks for his career. The Giants are like 3-13 when the guy doesn't play over the past years. No surprise they won the Super Bowl with the guy healthy. I'm scared he might retire.
I like the guys that mentioned Kampman in this thread for the same reason Strahan is overlooked. He's playing a run-stuffing position and getting the sacks, Although I must add, it was nice to see him get stuffed all day against the Giants in the NFC Championship Game,
In terms of overrated, you gotta go with Roy Williams of the Cowboys. His coverage skills are absolutely putrid.

Most O Lineman are underrated. These are some of my favorite athletes to watch. They are mean, nasty, will borderline break the rules if they have to. Stand up big time for each other and especially the QB and other skilled position players.
They have a mean disposition with intelligence, because making all those calls on the offensive line and knowing who to block at times has to be complicated.
