He was 31 when he finally suited up for the Blazers, also had numerous injuries prior to this.
He was good but to the guy who said Sabonis would have been the GOAT at center, stop smoking crack.

sabonis was one of the most atheletic bigmen every before injures took it's toll on him. Imagine bill walton with hops.. That's what he was.

shaq to me is the best center to ever play, who could honestly stop the guy in the post ? I'm sure sabonis could have been on the same level or better,he had hops at 7'3 and was the most athletic 7'3 guy to ever play the game,I could say his ability was 50% gone by the time he was a blazer.when you watch how he played in the 80's vs the mid to late 90's their is a big difference in ability,He moved and jumped like a small foward but was 7'3

Sabonis could've came over to the NBA in 1991, but decided to play Euro ball instead. Sure he destroyed Europe but do you think he would have done that to prime Hakeem, Robinson, Ewing, I don't think so.
If he came over earlier he probably would be on the same level as Robinson and Ewing, very good but not on the same level as Shaq, Hakeem, Kareem or Wilt.

I'm pretty sure that politics had something to do with Sabonis not coming to the NBA sooner. Between that and his chronic injuries, we don't know what he could've done in the NBA. That is why he is a "forgotten one".
Sabonis had all the tools to become a game changing center. He had the height, athletic ability, ridiculous passing skills, and a soft touch with great range for a big man.

It was politics. The USSR/Russia didn't allow Sabonis to come and play in the US.

Penny? C'mon man... I lived in O-town and I have no idea what you're talking about. You act like he's the Gale Sayers of the NBA. He's just another guy!
The most forgotten man? Hakeem Olajuwan. He spanked Shaquille's ass in the finals many years ago, but Shaq gets all the "great big man" run even so. It's ridiculous. Hakeem did it all - pass, shoot, post up, defense, block shots, steals, win Championships, every freaking thing. It ticks me off that nobody mentions him with Wilt, Russell, etc.
