As a Padres fan it really sucks to see Maddux endure this in his final season. A shame he has to go out like this, a guy of his caliber deserved so much better. Hopefully Prior can come in and do something, but I doubt it. I doubt anything can turn this disaster of a season around, D-Backs are running away with the division and we sure as hell aren't winning a wild card spot.

I am a D-Backs fan(big ups to B Webb, 9-0 baby!), but I wouldn't give up on the d'res just yet. Their bats have to come around some time, because they have some decent hitters.

Now I dont think anyone will catch the Backs because our pitching is amazing from top to bottom. Most dont realize it but Randy Johnson is 3-1 and he is now our 4th option. And we dont even have Doug Davis back from his cancer surgery. I think the Dodgers and the Padres will battle it out for a wild card though.

But I will say our middle relief is a little sketchy right now, and with a young team that could be bad late in the season.

the padres GM is always tinkering with the roster.
looks like he has brought in a lot of duds this year.
last year they had the killer bullpen with meredith/linebrink/hoffman
since they traded linebrink it all fell apart

Linebrink was always blowing games. It was his time to go. Justifiable trade in my book.

Honestly, Kevin Towers is a good GM. He's made moves before that looked stupid, but turned out great. The problem is the owner John Moorers. He's just a typical mid-small market owner that cares more about making a buck than putting a championship team on the field. The real problem however is us San Diego fans. In San Diego the attitude is that it's ok to be just above .500 at the end of the year. Moorers knows this. He may be a cheap owner, but he's smart. The shit we Padres fans put up with wouldn't fly in New York, Boston, or Atlanta.

15 - 27 is hard to come back from. I'm a Dodgers fan and I have been shocked that the Padres have played this badly.

Looks like the D-backs are going to run away with the division this year.
