Jamarcus Russell
Is the perfect example of why they need some kind of rookie salary cap/rules/laws. The guy is a joke. He is unmotivated, unprepared, and doesnt give a rip. Why? Because the loser got 31mil guarenteed. I cant stand this guy. Rookie contracts need to be incentive driven. I bet it Jamarcus had to actually throw TDs to earn that big $ he would be playing a whole lot better.

So, was it wrong that I picked J Russ with the first pick of every one of my fantasy drafts this year?

i feel that every contract in every sport should be incentive based. You get paid based on your present performance and not how good you were or potentially will be. If i recall, Russell even had the balls to hold out

I agree that incentive based contracts should be the rule, at least for players in their first few seasons.
And yes, Russell held out all through training camp, and into the first or second week of the season.

Yeah, I always thought this. Like Crabtree. If the dude falls on his face then what was all the hype about.
Problem is these guys coming out of college think they DESERVE something and want to get what they think they are WORTH.
Its like Look...You just got a Free Ride through College to play Football. And people owe your dumb ass who probably didn't even take advantage of that more? NFL is a whole other ball game and Rookies out of College should have no way to make demands.

I think it has to do with the teams. Teams feel like they need these players. I am a huge 49ers fan and I am glad Crabtree is with us and he had a hell of a game for his debut. But franchises need to say fuck you to these unproven rookies who hold out. I can see a vet holding out at least he has earned the right to.
