I think it was a decent trade. Pretty much a wash. Adrian Gonzalez is very underrated, and would probably have Utley's HR's if he played in a hitters park.

Bumping this since it's almost been a month now to get some updates and new opinions going. I'm pretty damn happy with the trade based solely on home runs and RBI's.
Johan Santana has been pretty average since I traded him. 29 innings, 19 strikeouts, 3 wins and a 3.38 ERA. Prince Fielder has homered 4 times with over a .300 average. Jimmy Rollins hasn't homered once since I traded him, but has 8 stolen bases and is hitting .312. I don't know the RBI's exactly for Fielder because my friend traded him after he got him, but Rollins has only 9 RBI's.
The trades working out really well for me, though, with home runs and RBI's. For pitching, I got Harang. He's pitched 27 innings with 26 strikeouts but has a 5.13 ERA right now. One bad outing screwed up his ERA up for me. Chase Utley is hitting .321 for me and has homered 8 times with 25 RBI's. Adrian Gonzalez has also homered 8 times with 26 RBI's and a .38 average.
You guys think this trade is working out in my favor and/or will work out for me? Funny thing is that Adrian and Chase are just about leading the league in RBIs and Utley is in first in HR's and Gonzalez is right behind him. The HRs, RBIs and AVG points are really helping my team out and I'm still in first place in ERA. I've got Zambrano still and Smoltz just came off the DL, so I think I'm looking good.

I'd say your friend got the better end of the deal. Santana is a phenominal 2nd half pitcher, Rollins will tear it up and Fielder will still hit his 40.

i hate that wins and losses count in my league. run support should not be factored into fantasy production.

Pitchers are so hot and cold throughout the season that I would not hesitate trading a tp notch pitcher for an offensive players who excelled in the stats I needed.
I am a fantasy god in rotisserie baseball. (I hope this is what you are playing) The strategy to incorporate in this type of league is to bring in the best offensive players and relievers (Saves) you can during the first 3/4 of the season. By the time the last 1/4 of the season rolls around, you constantly review the 'probable' list for pitchers pitching the next day and pick and choose ytour starters depending on matchups. You do this everyday until you reach your quota.

it might end up working for you man, but I'd still say you made a classic rookie trigger pull on players who are just about to heat up, for players who cannot continue their current pace.
Your trade, even in retrospect, looks good now, but that's only because Utley has been tearing the cover off the ball on a pace that there's no way he'll maintain.
I'd say he got the better of it, but that doesn't mean it doesnt help your team and might end up being in your favor in the long run.
I have both Harang and Santana, and they are both annoying me, but I'd never trade Santana. Oddly, I just lost smoltz too, but I also have SP Maine, Linecum, and Kazmir.

I agree with you and I kind've knew the potential mistake I was making with the trade (trading cold players who usually kill it for hot players who are killing it at the moment). But even with this trade made, I'm still near the bottom because of how far behind I was in all the hitting categories, and I knew if I didn't pull the trigger on a trade like this as early as I did, then there would be no way to catch up later in the season.
