NFL CBA Under Pressure

NFL owners are seriously contemplating terminating the NFL CBA agreement.

I know a large part of the audience believes NFL players have a raw deal, but they are not the ones talking about going on strike.

ESPN - NFL owners could opt out of CBA with union as early as Tuesday - NFL

It will completely and utterly fuck over the smaller teams. However they better be careful what they wish for to be honest.

There are many extremely rich people ready to buy the teams from the smaller markets and owners who couldn't sustain them.

The Bills would go to Toronto, and be owned by two of the richest men in North America. They are willing to throw billions and billions of dollars into the franchise.

To many teams would not be able to compete. I would rather have a work stoppage then no salary cap in the NFL.

An argument could be made the small market teams are currently fucking up the whole thing to begin with.

I know a lot of people talk how NFL players have a raw deal because contracts are not guaranteed, however it is the owners who want to back out of the current CBA agreement.

Yeah, and a major reason is the huge salaries that unproven rookies are getting, see the Matt Ryan contract as an example.

I agree completely. A salary cap would destroy the sport.

The CBA has been officially terminated today. Which means, no new deal in place by 2010 then the 2010 season has no salary cap and then possibly a lockout of the 2012 season.
